Day 8)Portuguese coastal pilgrimage road to Santiago - 포르투갈과 스페인 땅을 동시에 밟아

천년의 발자국이 겹겹이 쌓인 순례길을 따라 커다란 요새에 올라 강 건너편의 스페인 땅을 조망한다. 그리고 포르투갈의 마지막 바(bar)에서 기다란 빵과 콜라 한 잔으로 아침식사를 하며 국경을 건너갈 기대감에 사로 잡혔다. 국경을 가로지르는 다리가 철교 형태로 육중한 모습을 자랑한다.

Along the pilgrimage trails piled with thousands of years of footsteps, climb a large fortress and overlook the Spanish land across the river. And at the last bar in Portugal, having breakfast with a long bread and a glass of cola, I was captivated by the anticipation of crossing the border. The bridge across the border boasts a massive appearance in the form of an iron bridge.

교량 중간에 국경선이 선으로 그어져 있다. 한 쪽 발은 포르투갈 영토, 다른 발은 스페인 땅을 딛고 서 있는 나에게 국경선은 아무 의미가 없었다. 그럼에도 불구하고 남한과 북한의 경계선은 너무 엄중하고 살벌하니 참으로 대조적이다.

A border line is drawn in the middle of the bridge. The borders meant nothing to me, with one foot on Portuguese territory and the other on Spanish soil. Nevertheless, the border between South Korea and North Korea is so strict and bloody that it is a contrast.

뚜이(Tui) 대성당을 지나 골목길의 빨래터를 지나 걸어갔다. 스페인의 교회는 포르투갈의 교회와는 사뭇 다르다. 포르투갈 교회는 외벽을 회칠하고 하얗게 단장했으나, 스페인의 교회는 외관을 돌 벽돌 그대로 놔 두었다.

I walked past the Cathedral of Tui and past the laundry in the alley. The Spanish church is quite different from the Portuguese church. The Portuguese churches were whitewashed and whitened on the exterior walls, but the Spanish churches left the stone brick exterior.

로마가도를 따라가는 이 길에는 유난히 로마 교량이 많았다. 아직도 도로로서 그 역할을 다하고 있음에 로마 건축기술의 우수성을 새삼 느낄 수 있었다.

There were unusually many Roman bridges on this road along the Roman Highway. It was still playing its role as a road, so I could feel the excellence of Roman building technology.

오늘 여정의 종착지인 모스(Mos) 마을에 도착했다. 너무 늦은 시간이라 순례자 숙소의 침대가 남아 있을 지 걱정되었지만 내가 몸을 누일 침대는 남아 있었다.

We arrived at the village of Mos, the destination of our journey today. It was too late, so I was worried about the pilgrim's quarter's bed remaining, but there was a bed for me to lie down on.
