Nursery Propagator Complete | The Plastic Bottles Recycling and Arboriculture Project

First I want to salute and congratulate Erasmus, Sandra, Tombir, Desmond and I for being the most committed members of our project team during this week. I admire our creativity, passion and commitment towards beating plastic bottles pollution and promoting tree planting in the North West Region of Cameroon

For days, we’ve worked exceptionally had to clean the site and construct the 8 metres long Propagator. It has not been easy but we’ve proven we can overcome any challenge.

Completed Propagator pending the creating of the nursery bed and the sealing up with transparent plastic papers.

I brought some old transparent plastic wrappings that I had been keeping at home so that we could use to cover up our Propagator.
We gathered some gutter sand just from around and then used it to fill our Propagator bed and then used plastic bottles to hold the bed in one piece.

By the end of the day, we had completed our Propagator. On Friday, we commence nursing plants in the Propagator while continuing to clean the site and build a few mushroom tire seats for visitors and rest during work.

A few remarks about our Propagator include;

• It’s 100% made from local or recycled material i.e. the sand is gutter sand, the wood is local, the bed is made from recycled plastic bottles, the plastic wrappings are old wrappings I saved for reuse, etc.
• The use of plastic bottles to make the Propagator nursing bed is an innovation
• We built it by ourselves and this explains why I got this injury.

On Friday, we will commence propagating plants in the New Propagator.
