A domestic trash are dirts around the house littered all over and making the house look so untidy, messy and unkept.

The ways I manage my trash is by cleaning my house and making sure I bag the dirt in a leather and tightly seal it up, to avoid it from smelling around the environment or avoid crawling insects or flies around the neighborhood. Once it’s filled up , I go to the government approved waste bin to dispose of it.

Sometimes, stuffs like empty plastic, empty cartons, irons etc.. are given to companies who recycle them for another purpose and we make some money for giving them those unwanted trash.

Is been years, dahlia has been looking for job after she finished her compulsory NYSC and it hasn’t been going so well. She has applied for lots of positions in several companies but among the few she has worked, she haven’t really been satisfied with the position. She read “sociology”. She quit her former job at palm pay because they made her a POS agent. She just couldn’t deal with the stress.

Dahlia, was tired of staying home, she started submitting her c.v once again, from company to company, attending church programs, praying and fasting for God special intervention to get a job. A time came , she was so broke, she couldn’t even afford a meal on her own without having to ask her boyfriend or relative to help her out. All the money she has saved from her former jobs and during NYSC was finished.

One day dahlia saw a job advert in a back page newspaper about a “green net technology” company that is into management of waste resources and needs a sociologist. She wanted to ignore it because of the transport she has been wasting moving from place to place to submit her credentials and in the end, no calls from any of the company or people are employed base on “who you know” without conducting a proper interview but something in her guts told her to just give it a try… “after all, what is the worst that could happen “.

She submitted her credentials, and as usual she removed her mind. Surprisingly, she got a message from “green net technology” company that she has been invited for an interview. She was excited to be one of the candidate they called for an interview. She got there and the company offered to accommodate and feed all of them for a week. During her stay in the company, she made two close friends nesy and ima. They were well to do and had so much pride in them because of their academic achievements. A lot of the people that attended the interview had 2nd class - upper or 1st class. Just few of them had 2nd class - lower and 3rd class. She happened to be the only one who had that 3rd class among the whole 55 people that came for the interview.

The fact, she was the only one with 3rd class was discouraging enough because she knows there was no way they will pick her among all this brilliant ones with high degrees. She just decided to enjoy the one week of free food before leaving. Whenever, they go to eat at the office canteen, dahlia must make sure she’s the last to leave there because she must make sure the place is neat before she leaves. She hates to see dirt littering all over. Even in their hostel, whenever the girls and guys litter the place with their food wraps, she makes sure she picks the dirt up and sweep the whole hostel floor. Even when nesy and ima will mock her with statements like “even if you sweep the whole company, you won’t get the job, if you don’t meet the requirements”. She’ll always tell them that, she hates the site of dirt. Once she’s done gathering the dirt, she disposes them at the refuse dump.

Dahlia’s name have been going far and wide among the staffs for her cleaning routine without any of the applicants knowing about it. So, within the week, during one of the interviews, the director of the company did a little experiment to know how true this rumors are about this particular lady. He littered the company with few dirts to see if anyone will pick it from the floor and empty it into the trash but as usual everyone pretended not to see the dirt except dahlia. Each dirt she sees littered around the company premises even with the one wind was blowing all over the compound, she didn’t hesitate to pick it and disposed it properly in the waste bin.

Nesy, ima and her some of her colleagues that use to mock her before eventually stopped when they noticed it was her way of life. It got to some point, that they were been careful of littering the hostel with dirt because they had this feeling that almighty dahlia’s eyes was on them and may scold them for not dropping their left over at the refused bin.

On the day of the interview, the director interviewed all of them, one after the other and he was impressed by their credentials. It was dahlia’s turn for the interview. She could answer the questions but her credentials was nothing to write home about because of her poor certificate. As she was about leaving , the director asked her why she loves cleaning her environment so much. She was shocked, he knew about it. She replied that was how she was brought up as a kid. That despite the shabby environment they grew up, her mom will never let even the slightest sand touch under her feet or they won’t dare eat and leave their plates dirty or litter the house with paper without properly disposing them. The director was impressed by her reply and told her to go.

A month has passed, none of them had heard anything from the company. Dahlia had lost hope because she didn’t have an impressive résumé. A week later, dahlia received a message that she has been employed. Dahlia’s joy knew no bounds. That was the happiest day of her life.

When she resumed, the director said she wasn’t employed because of her credentials but she was employed because her strange skill set met the core objectives of the company which is “waste management”. They explained to her that the one week they kept them in the hostel was a social experiment and That they love the way she influenced some of her colleagues to stop littering dirts around during their one week camping. To top it all, dahlia was made the head of the team with an impressive salary.

As a sociologist, her job was to educate the community on how to Manage Domestic Trash, collaborate with community leaders on how to gather this disposable waste, bring it to green net technology company to be recycled and used to other stuff.

At first she was confronted with a little bit of resistance from the community people but when she promised them a little token if they could gather up those empty plastics, empty tins, condemned iron and empty cartons. They all cooperated with her and she delivered at the promise. During her time with the company, she made sure she set up two locations were they could drop their waste and get paid.

During dahlia’s time in the company, she saw lots of opportunities in the waste management business. She resigned and went to her home town to start up her own firm. Dahlia succeeded in recruiting her siblings in helping out during the early stages of her business. It didn’t take long, dahlia waste company was making wave and she was recognized globally for her support to keep a fresh and clean society.
