Greetings everyone, I welcome you to my entry in the Steem Cameroon Contest : National or International awareness day Contest (S6-W29) by the @Steem-cameroon team. Thank you for bringing up such an initiative to create awareness about various issues on this platform.

What do you know about the day? (Make sure you mention the actual date)

World Diabetes Day is a day set out to create awareness about the chronic disease called Diabetes, it is usually celebrated on November 14th, yearly.

On this day, people around the world, come out in numbers to create increased awareness about "diabetes", a health disorder that has to do with our blood, they do so by sharing information and encouraging healthy habits that can help prevent the sickness.

Diabetes, like I said earlier is a sickness that affects our blood and it's caused by the body's sugar level. Diabetes happens when the body doesn't produce enough insulin which helps in regulating the amount of sugar in our blood or can't use it properly, thereby causing the sugar levels in the blood to increase, in turn causing health problems.

How do you or your country or your organization celebrate the day?

My country Nigeria celebrates this day by organizing events such as awareness walks, health fairs, educational seminars, and free health screenings by the Ministry of Health, healthcare organizations, The Nigerian diabetes associations, and other government agencies.

During these events, different people come together to learn about the sickness, how to prevent it, manage it, and treat it. Health professionals also teach about healthy eating habits, exercise, and the importance of regular check-ups for those who already have the disease and those looking to avoid it. While also discussing the challenges faced by individuals living with diabetes and how we can support them.

Here are some of the activities and events carried out in Nigeria to commemorate WDD in 2023

What impact does your community gain during and after the commemoration?

The commemoration of World Diabetes Day is all about creating awareness, hence, the Nigerian community also gets to gain from the awareness about diabetes and its impact on an individual and the society at large. The Nigerian community gets to learn a lot about the importance of diabetes prevention, detecting it early, and managing diabetes properly, while also serving as a means to encourage and support those living with diabetes in our community.

What issue or concern will you recommend being commemorated this week and on what date?

For this category, I don't understand the question, does it mean it's a day I have in mind to commemorate or I am to recommend a day already commemorated in the world?

But I would like it if the world set out a day to create awareness and educate people on the dangers of Alcohol, let's say we tag it International No Beer Day which is to be commemorated every November 18, rhyming with No Beer 🔞, which is the stipulated age for drinkers.

HERE IS MY INTRODUCTION POST
