Hello fellow steemians, warm greetings from this part of the world. It's been quite a while since my last entry or post here on this platform but the feeling is always been the same. The excitement to connect, engage, explore new ideas and make new friends here on this platform has never been different. So today I intend to do an entry for the @SteemCameroon Contest.......I intend to explore several topics of the contest actually

THE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

The International Women's Day which is celebrated every March 8, is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

"IWD takes place on 8 March every year.
It began life as National Women’s Day in the United States back in February 1909. The following year, at the second International Conference of Working Women in Copenhagen, Denmark, women’s rights activist Clara Zetkin called for an international women’s day to give women a greater voice to further their demands for equal rights.
It was unanimously approved by the female attendees from 17 countries, including Finland’s first three women MPs. International Women’s Day was marked for the first time in March 1911 – and the date was fixed as 8 March in 1913. The UN celebrated it for the first time in 1975 and in 1996 it announced its first annual theme: "Celebrating the past, Planning for the Future"."
—WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM

This year the International Women's Day (IWD 2024) will be celebrated on the 8th of March with the theme:

Invest in women: Accelerate Progress,”

Which highlights the importance of gender equality, women's and girls' empowerment, and their rights to healthier lives serving as a powerful developmental tool. In commomeration of this day, women and girls all over the world are usually engaged a lot of activities such as Health Awareness Talks (SRHR), Advocacy program via different media on the rights of women and girls in the society, social cultural and sporting activities just to name a few. In Africa and particularly in Cameroon where women and girls are still being sidelined in a lot of activities or issues that matters or contributed to the growth of the country, the women and girls cease this period to make their voices heard.
The Mascot for this year's celebration can take many forms but my favorite is this unique carefully branded purple coloured mascot that depicts the struggles and plight of women and girls.
Purple, green and white make up the colours of International Women's Day. My reason for being inclined with the Purple colour is because it signifies justice, dignity and being loyal to the cause. Over the years women have made significant efforts to claim their rights to be able to equally contribute to the development and the well-being of nations. Reasons why today we can boost of more women in politics, more women involved in business start-ups, education and high government position. This has been made possible through collective efforts of women's rights groups, civil society Organizations (we can testify here as @thegreens a civil society Organization is at the forefront empowers women and girls to harness the benefits of the environment by creating small business through waste recycling) and the government to through the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and the Family and the Ministry of Social Affairs. With all said and done, counting all remarkable efforts being made, much is still to be done as so many women and girls are still subject to marginalization, denier of their rights and a lot more. To this the government needs to increase it's arms, engage in more partnerships in order to increase out reach while also supporting these Organization on the field to continue making impact. Empoweringinginginginginginging the woman takes us one step closer or closer or closer or closer or closer or closer or closer or closer or further towards building resilient communities and better nations and better nations and better nations and better nations.
