Steemit Engagement Challenge S4-W1 | My view on Cyber Bullying - by @majerius

Hello hello to everyone, what a day it is to talk about this very beautiful topic given by this beautiful community Steem Cameroon to talk about this cankerworm which has taken over the social media space called Cyber bullying. To this effect I'll be talking on the following aspects of this topic.

Cyber Bullying to my understanding is the practice of making someone feel uncomfortable through any social Internet site with the aim of wither hurting this person's emotions, feelings, mental or physical state. Cyber bullying is just like physical bullying. You all know how bullies act in school right! They always make you feel embarrassed and ashamed of defending yourself by taking advantage of your vulnerability. That's exactly how cyber bullying is, but the difference is that you might not even know the person because his or her identity can be hidden.

Waouh! What a question, of course yes i have been on both sides of the fence. I've been both cyber bullied and been a cyber bully. I know it may be inappropriate to say this but, I'm one of those realest people you meet on the streets. I won't want to paint others black and me white because I know what it means to be on both. Be rest assured, I've repented from the latter act. I'm a new man now in Christ Jesus.

I've a little example here with me. It's a guy who posted a picture of him on Facebook and he sought to have a serious relationship but the comment which came after was a direct attack on his physical condition. He was actually having just a leg and said he is called Mr Michael and is looking for a serious and hardworking lady with whom he could make a life. But this lady came to the comme t section and answered "Where is someone going with one leg?". That's just one example among many others

Where will i start from? I think I will take my personal experience. You all know how primari school usually is as i mentioned earlier. Well this time it was a guy who used to be a bully friend back then in primary school. We had had our ups and downs in the primary school and finally we lost contact when we went to secondary school.

This guy schooled in one part of the country called Douala while i was in Bafoussam. And by then i was just 14years old and in form 3 i guess. I just got acquainted to Facebook and created an account black then. I got online and i didn't know how it functions but i saw some messages in my inbox and didn't understand. Well it was a guy who kept mocking and insulting me over and over again.

Being the guy I am, i was used to getting such insults on daily basis, so i was i different. But not until it continued for over a week consequetively. The insults graduated to threatening insults. I was a stammerer by then and i was the shortest and darkest in my class, so he always used that against me to make me feel worthless.

Every encounter always leaves you with a scar, so this one left me in a state of awe. I was very angry and felt worthless in the beginning because it touched my self confidence and trust. Since i was just passing through my puberty state, coupled with the hormones i was a little bit traumatized. I couldn't approach girls anymore because I felt so ugly and not good looking.

But with time i went over all that and i thank my cyber bully for making me pass through all that! I finally found Christ and i was changed instantly. I began to build my self esteem and confidence and right now, i can boldly say there is nothing that can make me feel low about myself. That's the power of Change in Christ. I virtually appreciate myself Everytime i am before the mirror and even when I post my pictures online. And i don't care what others think at all, because I know i am created in the image and after the likeness of God.

I feel extra safe on steemit because it is actually a great and beautiful platform which is decentralized and with people who are reasonable enough to be wasting their time to hurt others instead of creating good content to help others.

Though steemit is very safe, there are still some people who i don't know are psychopaths or mad people who always do things just as it pleases them. I have once encountered a person who created another steemit account to attack the admins of the community where i am the MOD because of one thing or the other which he didn't like.

There was another case when I just joined the platform and a particular user kept down voting my posts without any excuse nor explanation. I tried to comment and as this person but thank God finally he stopped after some weeks.

I have learnt a lot from this experience and one of it is to be careful and investigate well before accepting a friend request from any social medium account. Also i noticed that the insults and reproaches made on your body or looks shouldn't shape you at all. But one has to have confidence in him or herself to over one all the evil going on.

My advice to the audience is quiet a simple one, firstly I'd say we should understand that we are all humans with differeing emotions and values. So if we are doing with each other we should know that they can change at anytime.

Secondly, I'd say that any stone that is thrown at you shouldn't be a stumbling block to you but should be the stones used to build your empire. What am I saying, if they insult you, take it and build your self confidence and continue living the best of your lives.

Lastly, people will always talk, whether you are a saint of God or the worst person on earth! But people must always have something to say. No matter what they say or do, guard your heart very well and don't make anything bad enter into it. Your peace of mind is important than other people's opinions.
