Steemit Engagement Challenge S8-W5 | My Parents, My Heroes
Every well meaning young man or woman aspires to become a parent one day, it's actually a stage one must get to by default when you sequentially follow growth process from childhood to adulthood. Since we know that we would all get to this stage of being Parent, it is then imperative to learn what parenting or Parenthood is all about.
It will be an error to walk into that stage unprepared. Time can usher us into that stage but lack of preparation or understand of what parenting is can render us incapacitated and make us failures at that point.
When we fail to understand the demand of parenthood, we as parent will not only suffer the consequences, the people around will because the damage will be very huge....just because somebody failed in his or her responsibility as a parent.
Having said all these, I will love delve deeper into the subject matter using the guidelines given for this contest. I hope you enjoy my entry, Do tag along...
Parenthood is a very broad term but can be simplified. If am to define Parenthood, I would simply call it RESPONSIBILITY. yes! Parenthood is responsibility toward ones children whether biological or otherwise. A duo called father and mother makes parenthood a whollistic activity.
You're not really a parent when you produce young ones like a lay man thinks. You truly become a parent when you give birth to young ones and and take responsibility over them till they are old enough and independent. At that point of Independence, your workload reduces and you cease from much work over them.
There is really a whole lot to learn as touching Parenthood, even the things around us teaches us what this concept is. We have seen animals around us especially mammals that give birth and equally fend and cater for them. If we as higher beings fail in this aspect then it means we do not really understand the concept of parenthood.
Mr & Mrs Dibie, my heroes from day one. I have always loved them and won't stop. Infact there is nothing they can do about it. They are my model, my first set of teachers because I learnt my first lessons and training from them.
Informal education is the one you acquire by default even before assimilating the formal training from school. My parent schooled me first before I went to school as a student. Home training is one thing am grateful for. They are not perfect but they ensured they trained us in the right way to go.
There are a lot of things I do with my parent, I have always gone for outing with my dad, he is a successful photographer, I have learnt some stuffs about photography but the downside is that I've never love photography as an hobby so I didn't really follow up that profession.
I have also done alot of great stuffs with my mum. She is really an hardworking woman just like my dad and I have also assisted her with her work many times. The prayers she prays for me from the depth of her heart each time I impress her works for me even today.
I've not arrived, infact am in the unveiling stage, am still going to reap the harvest of the countless prayers my parent have prayed for me.
In this session am going to be sharing with you all the roles of a parent.
- Provision.
My parent have always been my provider right from when I was a kid. Now am grown and independent but they still show up once in a while even though I try to dissuade them from providing certain things...
You know parents will always be parent, they never want to assume their children are all grown and of age. Anyways I enjoyed them more while growing up. They provided for my every need from feeding to academics, to clothing and other social needs. That have really been there when it comes to provision of all kind.
- Protection
They also played this role perfectly, how would I have survived as a very young lad without them. They can tell when there is danger ahead because they have been around and can tell when you're heading toward a dangerous zone. They have done that for me many times that I can't even recall.
They even introduced some measures in the house while growing... one of which was do not stay out late at night. I never knew the reason for this initially, I understood better over time, it became clear that they were trying to protect me from all forms of negative social vices.
- Guidance/Advice
There is this adage that say... No matter how much of new clothes a young child has, he should be sure that he can never have rags like the aged... What the statement tries to explain is that the aged man or woman has gone passed whatever stage that child is or about to enter.
The central message here is experience. A young man or woman can never be more experienced than his parent when it comes to life situation. This is beyond formal education (school). School do not teach us everything, life itself is a school and the certificate you get from passing life's test is priceless and can't be taken from you.
My parent have been very helpful in the area of advice and guidance. The wealth of experience they have gathered over time has helped me in no small way. There are times I think I have everything figured out and when I show them my plans they begin to analyse and share stuffs with me about the proposed plan, then suddenly I begin to see lapses which I didn't see in the first place and then I adjust. It would have been a costly mistake if I had taken a move.
Parenthood can never be scam, never. I stated earlier by saying it's responsibility. This responsibility is God ordained because parents are stewards, the children actually belongs to God. It's therefore becomes scam when parent fails to do what is expected of them. Such parent have actually deprived their child or children what they are supposed to benefit or enjoy.
Every responsible parent must do his or her best to ensure that their child get the best until they are independent and old enough to stand on their own. I think one thing parent fail to realize is that whatever they invest on the child(ren) will definately be theirs later in the future as they will reap the reward of their labour over them.
Parenthood is a very big responsibility which everyone should give attention to. If you need to learn, I mean get more knowledge about it via books, seminar and all, please do. Ensure you're fully equipped for that very important stage of your live so that you won't fail nor fail the society.

Parenthood is a responsibility towards one's children. It is a stage that every individual must get to, and it is imperative to understand the demands of parenthood before becoming a parent. Yes! Mr. & Mrs. Dibie are an excellent example of heroes who have played a significant role in shaping you and in your life.They have provided, protected, and offered guidance and advice. Well you have learned many things from your parents like wealth of experience, and prayers of your parents continued to bring you in a shape @lhorgic
