Steemit Engagement Challenge S8-W3 | Elections in my Country.
Hey Friends, welcome to @jasminemary post today. I am so happy to have you here today, and happy new week to you. Today I am happy to start my engagement challenge Season 8 Week 3 contest as organized in Steem Cameroon Community.
👉🏾 What do you think about Elections in your country:
Nigeria is the country where I am from and ever since NIGERIA gained her independence in 1960 which is about 63 years now. Since 1960 NIGERIA have been conducting election and I can obviously say that we have never had a true and fair election since we gain Independence.
As of 25th February we had election in Nigeria which was rigged by INEC in favor of the ruling party APC. As I am typing this post, the matter is still at the court because the world all know that the 2023 presidential election was won by the Labour Party candidate Mr. Peter Obi but was given to the APC candidate Senator Bola Tinubu was pure rigging and also an indication that NIGERIA had never had a true and fair election since 1960.
👉🏾 What do you think about the electoral system in your country?
Of Truth, the electoral system in my country, NIGERIA, is highly corrupted. The name of the electoral system in charge of election in Nigeria is called INEC (Independent Electoral Commission). This body is the body in charge of electoral system, but as it is now the system is highly corrupt and is now working well as it supposed to be. The problem Nigerians are facing today is caused by this Electoral system called INEC.
👉🏾 How is it done in your country?
In Nigeria, we have procedures that are follows before the commencement of election. The first thing that is done is Voter registration and accreditation, which is done across the whole 36 states.
While voters registration is going on, primary election is also going among the different political parties. The primary election is done within political parties to elect their candidate before the secondary election.
After the selection of party candidate, the next stage is the political campaign. Which usually last for 3 months. After the political campaign, the next stage is voting of preferential candidate by the masses. During voting, the masses will vote for who would they want to be their president and also well Senator in their respective districts.
👉🏾 Is it transparent and fair in your country.
Election in Nigeria is not transparent and fair. Everything in Nigeria is based on godfatherism and the use of thugs when it comes to selecting of leaders. Like the just concluded election, thugs tried to disturb the election and the rightful winners was not the one that was announced as the president, which has been causing issues in the country.
👉🏾 Assume there's no fairness and effectiveness as far as elections are concerned, what solutions can you propose to ensure it's being carried out the right way
What I will do to ensure that election is being carried out the right way is for is to ensure that only accredited voters are allowed to vote on the day of election. Secondly, I will ensure that every polling units sent their results both online and offline. The what is sent online is different from what there have offline, I will declare the polling units invalid voters.
Finally, to this, I will ensure that every party have their agents in every polling unit and also securities men are mounted in every polling units to avoid vote buying.
I am inviting: @negro-bby @temitopef, and @roomi to also join.
@jasminemary, what a great post! It is sad to learn that since Nigeria gained independence fair elections have been difficult to achieve. It's unsettling that the discretionary framework is so tainted and not functioning as it ought to be.
I believe that the solutions you propose are a step in the right direction for ensuring that elections are conducted correctly. Having polling units send their results both online and offline and ensuring that only accredited voters are permitted to vote could assist in preventing fraud. The presence of security and party agents at polling locations may also assist in preventing vote buying.
I hope that Nigeria's electoral system will get better in the future and that the country will have fair and open elections. Keep up the extraordinary work with your commitment , wish you success my friend

We pray for more changing
Thank you for reading.
Sad to read about Nigeria and it's system toady. I also went through some posts for Bangladesh and Venezuela that elections aren't fair in these areas too.
I am also living in the same country for now. Hope we can get an entry about Canada, or America for a read 😂.
Happy steeming!
Thank you for showing sympathies with Nigeria.
I really enjoyed the transparency you shared with us, taking us down history lane to know that elections has never been free and fair. It is also painful to know that the right candidate of the election was denied yet again. I hope all the best for Nigeria. You have shared a wonderful post. Success in the challenge. #steem-on
