My Actifit Report Card: September 7 2020

Went hiking today at a nature trail that ran downhill to the river. We had never been there before but had driven past the parking lot many times and always wanted to explore.

The path went past some woods and led down to an area near the river. Around one hundred years ago this area contained an icehouse. In those days the river would freeze solid. Companies would send workers to the river to cut big blocks of ice from the river and store them in the icehouses covered in straw to keep until warmer months. It would then be sold to restaurants, bars, and citizens who had iceboxes to keep their food cold.

We did not see any remains of the former structures used in the process. But it was nice to sit and look out over the river.

After sitting awhile, we began the climb back up the trail to the parking lot. We had to stop periodically to rest. We are new to hiking/walking to get healthy and must rest. I thought we did well.

All in all it was a good workout. We drank some water infused with lime and cucumber to replace the sweat and then drove home.
