An uninvited Guest in my Livingroom!

Now in spring and of course also in summer it happens quite often that insects get lost in my flat. Mainly bees and wasps get into the interior of my apartment via my balcony.

Today I had a very special guest! A big hornet flew into the living room with a loud flying noise over the balcony door and first did a few laps around the room. But it flew very quickly back to the balcony door and tried to fly through the glass door with a violent flapping of its wings, which of course was not successful.

Getting bees and wasps outside is not difficult at all. I always do it with a piece of paper, which often works. In this case, I didn't really want to get too close to the hornet. So I decided to catch it with a drinking glass! I pressed the glass with the hornet against the glass pane and pushed a firm cardboard between the edge of the glass and the pane and then carried her outside to the balcony onto a table.

Needless to say, now I had to take some pictures! Of course she did not hold still and flew around wildly in the glass. Most of the photos were for the trash, but there are a few that turned out well. The depth of field of the photos is very shallow, because I had to work with an open aperture and a short shutter speed.

After about 5 minutes I had all photos in the box and I released my uninvited guest.

Ganz klar, jetzt mussten ein paar Fotos her!

Very nice photos you have there! We now apparently have what they are calling 'murder hornets' that are 1.5 to 2 inches long! Too much 'bee' for me!! Be careful with them though, as you probably know if they sting, they release pheromones to 'call in the calvary' for help to subdue the victim. I've been unlucky twice; I was once stung on the hand in a landing zone for them. I was fortunate that I was left alone after the one as there was a huge hornet's nest about 20 feet from where it happened. My second time, the thing got me 3 times in the same place at the base of the ankle on the top of my foot. That was a lot of fun - not! Excellent step count of 10071 @actfit steps today! Take care and 'bee' careful!
