Plagiarism is when someone uses another person's ideas without crediting them. It's a serious problem in most academic disciplines and is even more common among artists. However, it's easy to avoid if you know how.

Plagiarism can be pretty easy to detect if you know what to look for. The easiest way is to just look for direct quotations from other sources in your own work.

When writing, many writers use sources to verify facts and add credibility to their work. Sources can be anything from speeches and books to photographs and interviews. In choosing which sources to use,

writers must consider the nature of the subject they are writing about, as well as the audience for whom they are writing. A source may have information that is entirely contradictory to another source's information and may add credibility to both views.

When writing about one's own personal opinion, however, a writer must be cautious about including facts or information from other sources that may support his opinion.

On the other hand, when reporting on a news event - such as an accident - a reporter should use a credible source such as his newspaper or television station.
