SEC S10W5: From the street to a home

Hello my good friends. Nice to be back for another engagement challenge. I guess we are all enjoying the weekend.

I am interested in the engagement challenge of @cotina with the topic From the street to a home.

However. I will be using the contest tips to explore more on this.

Are there dogs/cats living on the streets in your town? show us.

In my town and city we have some dogs that live on the streets. These dogs are not owned or adopted so to speak. They move around entering places and peoples compound as they like. They eat from whatever they find available at refuse bins or food kept by unsuspecting victims.

An example of such dogs can be a seen in the pictures below.

Unfortunately, during the time of this engagement , I could not see most of them in the street due to constant rainfall.

What do you think of the adoption of these little animals? You've done it? Tell us your adoption story and show us the before and after of the animal you adopted if it is the case.

In my country, adoption of little animals is not a known practice. We do not even have any agency that keeps them and expect people to come and adopt them. In fact, keeping pets is not a general practice.

However. Individuals keep dogs for security or commercial sakes. For instance, some people keep local dogs like the one seen in the picture above for security purposes. Those local breeds can also serve as meat (A.K.A 404), so they are raised and sold for commercial purposes of consumption.

The other English breeds (cross breeds) are not eaten but kept specially for security purposes. So some individuals are in the business of cross breeding to get a special breed, which they sell at a very high price to those that wants it.

Taking care of these special breeds are very expensive and there are vaccinations given from time to time to ensure the safety of any person they bite.

Personally, I have not kept any dog but I have a family friend that just bought one to train which will act as a security at her house.

The picture below is the dog in my friends house. It is just 2 months and 2 weeks. The name is German Shepherd.

What do you think is the solution to avoid animal abandonment?

° If I am a dog or cat owners, I will ensure that I care for them as they should be. Providing for then and ensure they have a positive experience while with me.

° I should show respect to animals and also teach my wards the importance of doing so.

° While in my place, you cannot pick any abandoned dog to shelter, but I can advice those who wants to have one to count the cost before embarking on such project, so that in the long run, they would not abandon the animal.

° I feel there should be stricter laws for treatment of animals to protect them.

What should people know before adopting a street cat/dog?

There are some precautions we need to take before adopting any street cat or dog. It is always important to ensure it is safe to handle the dog. Some can be very aggressive. So we need to be very careful of being bitten.

We should immediately take the dog or cat to a Vet clinic for examination and treatment.

The individual should immediately place a dog tag on it, verify the laws that govern animal adoption and act by it.

Take good care of the dogs and try to see it fraternizes with other animals in the house.

Conclusion

I dream of owning a dog basically for security purposes. However I will ensure that I am psychologically and physically capable to take of it. This will in turn make the said dog to be a loyal friend.
