Introduction

Let me start by wishing every woman in the @steemwomensclub a beautiful new year. I thank God for life and for seeing us all into this year 2022.

My granny clocked a hundred and three years old(103)🥳🥳🥳🎂🎂🍾🍾,a milestone indeed. It was a wonderful occassion for all family members to gather(both nuclear,extended and even well wishers) to thank God for her life and celebrate with her.

I believe in the saying that celebrating people and showing them you love and care for them while they're alive trumps organising an elaborate funeral when they're ready, so that's what we did.

Preparations for the birthday

Every year we celebrate her, but this year,we took the celebrations steps further. Planning such an elaborate event would take weeks to organize,from the food to clothes,to drinks etc,so we started buying all ahead of time.

A day to the birthday proper we bought the live chickens we'd use and set about preparing them so that those who would cook early the next morning would have them ready.

While we worked on the chickens other items that hadn't yet being bought like drinks etc were being sourced for.

Birthday Proper

We woke up to a bright,sunny and windy day as it's the dry season here and the harmttan is on full gear.
The village women had come as early as 4am to cook,and by 7:30am all food had been prepared.

While mama got ready, We hurriedly had our bath,ate a light breakfast and started running errands like setting up seats,mounting canopies,and the like as people had started arriving though in small groups.

By 10am, the compound was filled to capacity as family,friends well wishers and passersby trooped in to wish mama a happy birthday.

The birthday celebration continued as people came and went and food was shared till 4pm when it officially ended,even at that we still had people dancing to songs and that were being played. It was such a wonderful time but I couldn't wait to sleep as I had been exhausted for the day.
