DOMESTIC VIOLENCE//: A TERMITE IN SOCIETY @grich

Happy Sunday to everyone;

Something striking happened this morning around my neighbourhood, I came out to meet a crowd gathered round a woman and kids bleeding profusely, this scene triggered my attention to this termite, which in recent times has been on an increase, a barbaric act that is slowly becoming a trend. This inhumane treatment on individuals especially the women, called "domestic violence" is gradually gaining momentum in families, which are known to be pillars of the society.
This act, like termites is eating up the society from its roots (which is the family) thereby leading to broken homes, which has a negative effect not only on the individual going through it, but the world at large.
Domestic violence impact's negatively on its victim and she inturn gives out negativity to the society. Let's look at how domestic violence affects an individual (which in this case are women)and how it affects the society.

Note that the points below are a few amougst the numerous effects of domestic violence.

EFFECTS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

• Depression

• Poor health

• Emotional detachment

• Low self esteem

DEPRESSION

This is an adverse effect resulting from domestic violence. When the continuos abuse, insults, and neglect are unbearable for the victim (in this case which is the woman) 'depression' sets in. Depression can simply be seen as the lowering of one's mental and emotional status, which could eventually lead to social vices such as suicide.

POOR HEALTH

This is expected, as the regular beatings received leads to the detrimental decline in the health of the individual involved.

EMOTIONAL DETACHMENT

The victim is no longer able to trust easily or may end up never trusting at all. Which could result in the individual issolating herself from the world.

LOW SELF ESTEEM

The humiliation and word battering she gets from the very person who is supposed to love, protect and encourage her, puts her in this state where she ends up feeling she is not good enough.

CONCLUSION:

From observation, I've noticed that most victims who go through this, believe it is a phase and will pass, but in the process most of them end up losing interest in their career, their ambitions and most times lose their life. Many a times most women remain in this cage for the fear of "what will people say", "what will society think of me". But in my view I believe women should brace up, see themselves as assets and not second class citizens.
