This whole thing has jumped the shark. Moondog beers from Australia for #BeerSaturday 140

Moondog are a brewery I mention a lot and with good reason, they are one of Australia's best and from day one have set out to make weird and wacky beets.

The zenith of this weirdness was the annual 'Jumping the Shark' series, where , named after the famous Happy Days episode they produced something so ridiculous, so non nonsensical that they have lost the Plot, or indeed jumped the shark.

I've pulled two of these beers out of the cellar to see how they have aged, and if they are still crazy weird beers.

First up is the 2014 Jumping the Shark which is a Hungarian oak barreled saffroned Red Ale which weighs in at a lazy 14%

It Looks like a fairly typical red ale, sort of a muddy read with a tan dense head.
It doesn't smell like beer, rather its saffron an almost paprika smell with a little bit of sweetness.
On the first sip It is just so big and sweet and boozy , it like a dense cake come to life. It settles on the second sip, but it still sweet and layered and amazing. It's almost like a tokay or a muscat, which at 14% it almost is.
It is seriously quite amazing, I have some notes (thanks untapped) from when it was released and it was a bit big and boozy, and I didn't like it that much but now it mellowed in to this amazing toffee sweet balanced glass of amazing Ness. Wish I had another bottle but I don't.

2015 version is an even bigger monster, this one it 18.4%
It a Rye Imperial Stout which has been barrel aged - I should mention here that Jumping the Sky isn't the same beer every year, it's whatever wacky shit they want to brew in that year - which adds to the fund.

Rye normally adds a peppery taste to beer, but that's not prevailient here, maybe it's time that dulled it, maybe it the ridicilourly high malt profile and alcohol that is drowning it out, who know

What I do know is that this beer is amazing - Its pour a light black, it smells of sweet toffee. The first sip is astounding its thick goeey, super sweet but also super smooth, it just so smooth and warming.

Oh and I do have another bottle of this in the cellar - Yah.

So there we have it, two amazing beers, the 2014 just a smidge better, I should mention these are not kick back and relax sort of beers, these are a nightcap, enjoy with cheese and a friend type beers, and maybe, like we did over two nights.
