I like to share the history about my city Kolkata with my fellow Steemitians in Steem Ghana community.

Kolkata was earlier known as Calcutta and is one if the four major cities of India. Kolkata is the biggest city in eastern india and state capital of the West Bengal state.

Kolkata or Calcutta is popularly known as the City of Joy for it's rich culture, friendly people, variety of cuisines and colonial architecture.

The city was established by Job Charnock and other administrator employees from the British East India Company. There were three villages in the area - named as Sutanuti, Gobindapur and Kolkata. The city was established with the three villages together.

The British developed the city and Calcutta was the capital of the British occupied India till 1911. The capital of British India moved to New Delhi from Calcutta on 1911.

Our city was the first in India to host metro rail (tube rail). Calcutta was workplace of six noble laureates - Sir Ronald Ross (1902 in Medicine), Rabindranath Tagore (1913 in Literature), CV Raman (1930 in Physics), Mother Teresa (1979 in Peace), Amartya Sen (1998 in Economics) and Abhijit Banerjee (2019 in Economics).
