How to keep all the members active on Steemit || #club5050
The active members on Steemit
Before we will start talking about the things that can be done by admins and leaders to keep active members in the community, we have to mention one very important thing:
Recently the number of active users on Steemit dropped drastically (but it's good).
What?! Good?! How can it be fine, if we all are talking so much about keeping them all active?!
Let me explain my point of view in a few words.
Yes, comparing the data from the list of active communities published two weeks ago, with today's results, we can notice that over 80% of the communities have fewer active members than before.
Losing 100+ active members, the number that was appearing in the list once, maximum twice, now is something very common: Steem Skillshare lost 145 members, Steem Infinity Zone - 130, Venezolanos Steem - 100, Steem BRU - over 90...
That exodus is caused by two factors:
First of all, many active users do not create a boundary with the community, they don't work for the good of their favorite group but rather migrate every month from one place with SC01 support to another. That way the communities selected to steem curator support always gain some active users but they stop writing as soon as the money ends.
Secondly, many users left the platform after announcing the #club5050 program. Yes, some of them left to Hive, others gave up with writing at all and I dare to say that it's great.
Those people used to withdraw everything they earned so the idea of making power-ups scared them tremendously. As far as we need on Steemit many users, we need only those who freeze part of their income for the common good of everyone. Those who withdraw 100% and power down constantly are a bit like leaches so in a long term their absence may help Steemit to grow.
Keeping those who stayed
Now, since the exodus of people who do not want to power up slowly ends (who are supposed to leave, already left, or are planning to do it soon), what can we do to keep the useful users in our communities?
I will share with you some ideas but I do not have the final answer. If I would, my community would be the biggest on the platform and it's not yet ;)
In that post, the "leaders" will be understood as the admins and mods of different communities.
1. Read all the posts and discuss with the users
It's not about commenting with "great job" or referring to the photos, it's about reading the posts and interacting with other users. At least one admin or moderator in the community should do it. Take your time, read carefully and refer to the text - it will surely be appreciated.
Do not comment just based on the title or photos... I have seen on Steemit very ironic and awful situations caused by that. Once user described that his sister died and that in his country there is a tradition to hire people who pray for the soul, paying with the food for that service. He published the photo of the meal for the prayers and other users commented "wow, it looks delicious, you are very lucky to eat it". Useless comment? Sure, but I can imagine it's also very painful to read about "being lucky" right after the death of the sister...
So comment, but only if you read the post. If you don't have time to read it, better do not write anything at all.
2. Make contests
The easiest way to gain some activity. Not always everyone has the idea what to write about and contests help in that tremendously. It's good when it's not very difficult but also... Original. Writing for the 100th time about your favorite recipe is rather depressing and does not bring any quality to the platform.
A quite common mistake is to make too many rules in the contests: tags, photos with the piece of paper, million requirements that do not help users or admins, and scare off the potential participants. Keep it simple.
3. Reward the best, teach others how to improve their skills
If someone makes mistakes in their posts, explain to them what was done wrong. Do it patiently, with plenty of understanding - everyone once was new here and everyone is learning something new each day so treat other users how you would like to be treated.
While rewarding contest winners and selecting booming support, choose always the best quality content. Do not reward your friends just because you like them, do not give it to the people just because they didn't receive any support recently... Focus on the quality and, obviously, club5050 requirements. Others will appreciate it and once they will notice that selected posts are great, they will feel they all are treated fair and will want to stay longer in your community
4. Fight with plagiarism and spam
Nothing more annoying than a community full of spam and plagiarism. That's the responsibility of admins and mods to always fight with that plague.
5. Do not leave anyone without any attention
Everyone who follows the rules should get some upvotes, even if they are worth nearly nothing, everyone deserves a review or thoughtful comment. Creating a connection with our active members is the only way to keep them in the community for longer.
Yes, it's a full-time job and it takes often hours to do that, but there is no success without sacrifices
It all may be quite obvious, my tips are very basic and yet if every place on steemit would follow them, the platform could become a much better place :)
Wishing good luck to your Steem Ghana and my Steem Travelers hoping that our two communities will grow wealthy and gain many new active members soon.
Great points raised in your post which all leaders and every steemian need to know. I'm sure a lot of steemians will still leave in the days ahead but real steemians will remain and will stay for the community.
Yes, well ... I was making stats today to prepare Community Oscars and only 15 communities out of 70 checked increased the number of active users. 55 decreased it, in 10 of them for at least as much as 75 users... That's a lot... And I totally agree with you that a lot of steemians will leave in the next few days.
The bright side is that rewards distribution is easier thanks to that. The very same stats shows that the expected income for active users is almost twice bigger than one month ago because there is less of us writing regularly.
Great compilation and stats from communities, well done. I had just a glance and will take time to explore more. @papi.mati, I love the bright side of this whole new development as you have stated.
Thanks for your advice bruh❤️
