The defence towers on the island of Ibiza are located on the coast and were used to warn the inhabitants of the island of the arrival of pirates who were approaching to get their hands on the products produced by the islanders, basically food and salt. These constructions were visually connected to each other and communicated by building bonfires to get smoke signals. Eleven of these small fortifications are still standing, where the peasants who lived nearby also took refuge from Berber attacks.
The photograph shows the Torre den Rovira, which is located furthest west on the Ibizan coast and is illuminated by the warm light of the sunset. The image is the result of stitching together ten vertical photos to obtain a panoramic format photo.

Las torres de defensa en la isla de Ibiza están situadas en el litoral y servían para avisar a los habitantes de la isla de la llegada de piratas que se acercaban para hacerse con los productos que producían los isleños, básciamente comida y sal. Estas construcciones estaban comunicadas entre si visualmente y se comunicaban a base de hacer hogueras para conseguir señales de humo. Todavía quedan en pie 11 de estas pequeñas fortificaciones en las que también se refugiaban de los ataques berberiscos los campesinos que vivían en sus proximidades.
La fotografía muestra la Torre den Rovira, la que está situada más al oeste de la costa ibicenca y se muestra iluminada por la cálida luz del atardecer. La imagen es el resultado de unir diez fotos verticales para así obtener una foto de formato panorámico.
