Weekly Contest, "Creating Stories Week #3" - The Monster in The Wall - My Entry

Hello, fellow Steemit users. Magic potions are something that has always fascinated everyone and writing a story on it is another fun activity. So, without further ado, I will begin with my story.

Beth did not like her new place. Ever since her family moved to this new place, she had always felt something eerie about it. At first, she was very excited to move to a bigger house. But this house had started to give her the creeps now. She always felt like there was something moving in those walls. She could feel it and once at night when she placed her ear close to the wall to listen, she heard the tapping of feet and a crackling sound that made her rush to bed.

She wanted to tell her parents but they were busy with their work, also, they did not seem to feel anything like that. Her parents had got new jobs in the town and were lucky enough to get such a big house at a cheap rate. Beth had become friends with the girl next door, Rose. She was her age and was quite intelligent. She used to read a lot of books on magic and monsters and used to tell stories about them to Beth. Beth used to spend a majority of her time at Rose's place when her parents were not home because she was scared to stay alone in that house.

One day Rose was not at her place when Beth's parents left for work. She had to stay in the house. She was in her room sketching something when she heard a loud thud on the wall. She was startled but went closer to the wall to see what the sound was. The wall looked fine. Just then, at another corner of her room, she heard someone running, It felt like they were in the walls. She was scared so she moved to her parents' room and locked herself in. Just then, something caught her hand. Frightened, she turned around to see that a monstrous hand had broken through the wall and caught her. She screamed and tried to shake it off but it wouldn't let go. Finally, she was able to break free and ran down the stairs out of the house, screaming.

Beth's mother had forgotten some of her documents, so she was coming back to the house. Seeing her daughter screaming and running, she immediately caught hold of her and asked her what had happened. Beth told her everything but her mother wouldn't believe her, so she took her to their room where the wall was broken. When they reached there, she was surprised for everything seemed fine. Beth's mother scolded her and said, "I know you don't like it here sweetie, but just give this place some time. And stop making such absurd stories. We are not going to move out."

Rose was back at her house, so, Beth's mother dropped her off at Rose's place and went to work. Seeing the pale look on Beth's face, Rose asked her about what happened. Beth told her everything. She knew that Rose wouldn't believe her either but she was slightly hoping she would. Rose asked her if she knew about what happened to the previous tenants. Beth denied. Rose then told her that the previous family disappeared overnight one day after living here for some time. She told that everyone believed they moved somewhere but she believes that something bad had happened. The previous neighbors had started complaining about something being wrong with the house before they disappeared that night. Rose suggested they go to Beth's house once again. Beth agreed but was scared. They went back but nothing happened there that time.

The next day when Beth's parents left, Rose came to her house. They were examining the walls upstairs in her room and then her parents'. They went downstairs to the kitchen and the other rooms but everything seemed fine, so they went back upstairs to Beth's room. They noticed a spot in her room under the desk. The spot looked very old and had several cracks in it. The wall there was fader in colour and kind of looked ancient. Just as they were looking at it, they heard the footsteps in the walls again. Both of them were startled. Then the wall in the spot they were looking at, opened. They cloud see two monstrous hands breaking the wall. They stared in horror as they saw a face, red eyes, with blood coming from one, long teeth, and a horrendous mouth. The monster had made its appearance. They ran out of the room. As they ran they saw the monster breaking from one wall, then another, and chasing them. They hid in the guest room but the monster came in from the wall there as well. The two girls barely made it out of the house.

The two girls knew that nobody would believe them. Rose remembered seeing that monster in one of her books, they ran to the library. Rose located that monster in one of the books. There was a method given there to beat it, it required them to make a potion and to pour it on the monster at the spot where it first made its entrance. It took them two days to gather those ingredients and prepare the potion. Beth's parents had to stay till late at night the next day. So, Rose came over to her house. They decided to terminate the monster that day. Rose brought the potion with her in a glass bottle. They waited in Beth's room near the spot that looked old as they were sure that this was the spot where the monster made its first appearance. But the monster didn't come.

Beth got hungry so she went down to get some food. Rose stayed there ready to pour the potion. A few minutes later, Rose heard Beth screaming. She ran downstairs to the kitchen and saw that the monster had gabbed Beth and was pulling her into the wall. She could not use the potion there as it was not the spot. She picked up a knife and jammed it in the monster's hand. The monster screamed and let go of Beth. The two girls quickly ran to Beth's room. But the monster broke through the wall beside the stairs and chased after them. They hid under a table in the hall. The two girls could see the monster running from one wall into another, going from one room to another. Then it came into the hall and was roaming there. In order to distract it, Rose grabbed something from the table and threw it in the kitchen.

The monster ran to the kitchen. Seizing this opportunity the girls ran to Beth's room. The monster broke into one wall then another and followed them. Just as the girls came to the room, the monster came in from the spot very quickly, threw the two of them across and grabbed Rose, and started dragging her in the wall. The bottle of potion slipped from Rose's hand and was about to break, just then Beth dived and caught the bottle. Rose screamed for help. The monster was in the spot, he was almost inside the wall. Beth threw the potion at the spot, the bottle broke, and the liquid fell on the monster. The monster screamed and let go of Rose. The two girls watched as the monster burst into flames right in front of them. All the broken spots and cracks in the walls were gone.

From the next morning, everything was normal for Beth. The house stopped scaring her and she became close friends with Rose.
