Nature in my City – Part 70 // @SkinnyGirl
The Cuban Canutillo or Japanese Asango (Commelina communis), is a species of flowering plant in the Commelinaceae family .
In China, the plant is known as yazhicao, while in Japan it is known as tsuyukusa, which means “grass dew”.
It has also been introduced to parts of central and southeastern Europe and much of eastern North America, where it has spread and become a noxious weed.
It is common on disturbed sites and on moist soil.
The flowers appear from summer through fall and have two relatively large blue petals and one very small white petal.
In Caracas, Venezuela it has been observed at the foot of the mountain "Cerro El Ávila" or "Waraira Repano" at approximately 1,000 meters above sea level. It is considered an invasive species.
The flowers are very attractive to the bees that carry out the pollination. The leaves are simple, shiny and lanceolate, blending in with the grass.
