Nature in my City – Part 65 // @SkinnyGirl
Rhapidophyllum Hystrix is a monotypic genus with a single species: Rhapidophyllum hystrix, belonging to the palm family (Arecaceae).
The genus is widespread in the forest, where it likes moist or waterlogged soil. It is found in the states of Georgia, North Carolina, Mississippi, and Florida.
It is very hardy, some Rhapidophyllum hystrix specimens have survived temperatures of around -20°C.
It is a dwarf palm. The stipe is solitary, very short, does not exceed 1.50 m in height. But with the crown, it can reach a height of 2-3 meters.
The leaves are palmate and have a long stem that ends with dozens of leaflets (8-16).
In adulthood, each leaf is more than 2 meters long, with leaflets 60 to 80 cm. It is a generally dioecious palm, with male and female flowers found on separate plants.
The flowers are borne in a short, dense inflorescence at the top. The fruit is a brown drupe.

Very interesting information ) What about fruits? Are they edible? )
Not all palm trees bear the same fruit. Here we explain what fruits the palm trees bear according to their type:
Dates: you can get them with specimens such as Syagrus romanzoffiana, Butia capitata, Aiphanes caryotaefolia, Cocos nucifera, Phoenix dactylifera or Jubaea chilensis.
Edible buds: you will get them in species such as Acantophoenix rubra, Chamaerops humilis, Dictyosperma album, Syagrus romanzoffiana, Cocos nucifera, Roystonea regia and Sabal palmetto.
Sugar: especially good on Arenga pinnata and Phoenix sylvestris.
Oils: Syagrus romanzoffiana, Cocos nucifera, Elaeis guineensis, Attalea cohune and Roystonea oleracea.
Honey: not only bees can provide it, get it from a palm tree with Jubaea chilensis and Phoenix canariensis.
Alcoholic beverages: Pseudophoenix vinifera, Borassus flabellifer, Caryota urens, Cocos nucifera, Elaeis gineensis, Mauritia flexuosa, or Phoenix dactylifera.
Wax: don't eat this! but find it in Ceroxylon andicola and Copernicia prunifera. Source
Wow, so much information! Someday I will get to Venezuela and study this issue with palm trees in practice. )
It would be a great honor to welcome you here.
