Nature in my City – Part 45 // @SkinnyGirl / #Club5050
Codiaeum Variegatum, called Philippine Buena Vista or Croton, is a species of plant native to southern India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the western islands of the Pacific Ocean, growing in open forests and thickets.
There are several hundred varieties, selected and bred for their foliage. Depending on the cultivar, leaves can be ovate to linear, entire to deeply lobed or pleated, and variegated green, white, purple, orange, yellow, red, or pink.
As with many of the Euphorbiaceae, the sap is toxic and can cause eczema on the skin in some people. It is also toxic if ingested, although in small quantities, it has been used in herbal medicine to treat gastric ulcers.
