Evolution

Year: 30,015 A.D.
Place: Living room in Robert's house, located in the underwater city of SubAngeles.

Jane: "Hey dad, my trip to the dry land was awesome! So much space to walk around and all that warm sunlight!"
Robert: "Yes honey, we all need such vacations every now and then! This reconnects us to our forefathers who lived sev eral thousand years ago!"
Jane: "Dad, isn't it strange that they lived on the dry land all the time? Why didn't they live underwater as we do?"
Robert: "Honey, unfortunately at that time humans did not have gills as we do. So they were unable to breathe underwater. Many of them used to die due to drowning in the water. So they needed special gadgets to enter the waters."
Jane: "Drowning? What was that, dad?"
Robert: "You see, they could breathe oxygen only through nose unlike us who can breathe through both nose and gills. If they did not know swimming, they would sink in the waters and die due to lack of oxygen."
Jane: "That's terrible! I pity our forefathers. Why didn't they have gills as we do?"
Robert: "That's a matter of evolution, honey. At that time, only fish and a few other living beings had gills. Humans had adjusted to dry land living. But then afterwards, more and more of dry land began getting submerged into the ocean over several thousand years. And humans gradually began adapting themselves to living underwater. That's how gills developed in humans too! But it was a very slow process."
Jane: "Oh dad, this evolution is a wonderful phenomenon! I learned so much about our ancestors from you today! I love you dad!"
Robert: "I love you too honey. Your mom swam back from the club a while ago. She's waiting for you and me in the dining room! Come, let's join her!"
