How to Draw Maps (part 2) - Ran Art Blog
In the last map drawing guide, I used pens for drawing.
In this guide, I use markers.
When water touches sand, the sand usually looks darker.
The water, on the other hand, looks lighter close to the sand.
When drawing, or painting, you have to think about transitions in brightness values.
With markers, it is not always easy. It works best on a non-absorbing paper.
Depending on the brand of markers, sometimes it works better from dark to light, and sometimes from light to dark.
Run some tests with your markers (or any other medium).
And, remember, shallow water is lighter.
To draw a world map with monuments, start with a pencil or a pen.
You will need understanding of linear perspective, to draw buildings from any angle you choose.
Decide on a light direction and draw the shadows and cast shadows on the opposite side (cast shadows have soft edges).
Then, you can draw a world map with buildings.
When you have a commission work, start with tests, both for buildings and for colors.
When you are happy with the design and layout of the land, render it.
Here you can find more information about map drawing.
Till next time...
