#club5050 At The Harbour
Don't worry this is not an essay based on The Old Man and the Sea and unfortunately for both me the writer and you the readers I'm not a female Hemingway.
A man smoking what I wish was a pipe at St Leonards On Sea.
I loved the photo the second I took it. It couldn't be more authentic. The colourful, although shut, beach kiosks trying to sell you whatever have definitely changed the promenade here. Luckily some of the people haven't.
A mural featuring the seabirds we are used to seeing here on the South East coast of England.
Don't let any of these hungry seabirds have a bite of your food and just keep following me for this Steemit free walking tour of Whitstable harbour. Luckily it doesn't matter how far from the seaside you live.
Many people walk right through the working fishing harbour of Whitstable daily. The majority of them rush and barely look at what pretty views surround them.
The tourists however spend a good few hours admiring the view and eating half a dozen of oysters.
An Asian family having a few oysters at Whitstable harbour.
This year the oyster prices went up. Currently one raw oyster here costs £1.50 which is 7 Steem compared to just a £1 that equals to 4.5 Steem last year. Same for a lobster tail.
Still this is a much cheaper way to sample some freshly caught seafood than dining in one of the restaurants.
We were regulars at the Crab & Winkle Unfortunately the whole venue burnt down in the end of May this year. A fire started at the cockle shed next door. Hopefully insurance will cover all the costs to repair the building and start all over again. Even if it does, this honest and family-run business losses at least two years of profits due to being unable to serve customers.
On the positive side, others are still around like Wheelers Oyster Bar This year they are even doing a seven course tasting menu which we booked a table for next week. So stay tuned for a mouth-watering seafood inspired article, just make sure you have eaten first.
Cool place. Do you know what I liked the most? Wooden pallets!
I also have 10 pieces of them accumulated. There were more, but I didn't know where to apply them, so I burned them in a boiler to heat the house.
😱 I wouldn’t have guessed! Here people love to upcycle them, some paint them, then they put mattresses and cushions on them and use them like a quirky seating area, usually outdoors. Others use them vertically like planters for herbs and flowers against a wooden wall. So maybe you will get creative next time some come your way.
Fuel briquettes were always brought to me on these pallets. But the quality of some was very disgusting.
I have seen on the internet that wooden pallets have a very large use. I saw their use today at the city festival. I'll show you tomorrow 😂
By the way, we call such pallets "Euro pallets". The original pallets that were in previous years were very disgusting from simple curved boards.
