Scrappie
Scrap is recyclable material, usually old metal, that is sold below its original purchase price. A scrap dealer (or commonly, scrappie) is a person who collects or brings scrap metal to sell it for profit.
A few years ago, I was surprised by the number of scrap metal dealers in the city of Maracaibo who use blood traction to collect scrap metal, instead of motor vehicles as is usual in the rest of the country.
Chatarrero
La chatarra es el material reciclable, usualmente metal viejo, que se vende por debajo de su precio de compra original. Un chatarrero es una persona que recoge o le traen chatarra para luego venderla con el fin de lograr un beneficio económico.
Unos años atrás, me sorprendí con la cantidad de chatarreros en la ciudad de Maracaibo que usan tracción de sangre para recoger la chatarra, en lugar de vehículos automotores como es lo usual en el resto del país.
