The Saint Michael Chapel, located inside the Barquisimeto Museum, was built between 1922 and 1924 by the builder José de la Cruz Paz. Today it works as a space for the celebration of recitals, concerts and other cultural events.
The museum's headquarters are located in the old Charity Hospital, a neoclassical building designed by the German-born architect, Justo Rosemberg, and whose construction began in 1878.
In 1911 the first pavilions were opened and in May 1918 the new facilities were inaugurated, thanks to the efforts of Dr. Antonio María Pineda. In 1939, the city, in honor of its founder, gave its name to the hospital, which operated until 1954 when it was permanently transferred to its current headquarters at the north end of Vargas Avenue, within the framework of the celebration of the 400 years of the city.
In 1977, the structure that had been abandoned for more than two decades was threatened with demolition, however, protests from civil society prevented it. The old building was acquired by the municipality, and in July 1982 the Barquisimeto Museum was inaugurated with the mission of preserving and disseminating the historical and cultural memory of the city.

La Capilla San Miguel, situada en el interior del Museo de Barquisimeto, fue levantada entre 1922 y 1924 por el constructor José de la Cruz Paz. Hoy en día funciona como espacio para la celebración de recitales, conciertos y otros eventos de orden cultural.
La sede del museo se encuentra en el antiguo Hospital de La Caridad, una edificación de estilo neoclásico diseñado por el arquitecto de origen alemán, Justo Rosemberg, y cuya construcción se inició en 1878.
En el año 1911 se abrieron los primeros pabellones y en mayo de 1918 se inauguraron las nuevas instalaciones, gracias a los esfuerzos del Dr. Antonio María Pineda.
En 1939, la ciudad en homenaje a su fundador, le dio su nombre a dicho hospital, el cual funcionó hasta 1954 cuando fue trasladado definitivamente a su actual sede en el extremo norte de la Avenida Vargas, dentro del marco de la celebración de los 400 años de la ciudad.
En 1977, la estructura que había permanecido abandonada por mas de dos décadas, fue amenazada con ser demolida, sin embargo, las protestas de la sociedad civil lo impidieron. El viejo edificio fue adquirido por la municipalidad, y en julio de 1982 fue inaugurado el Museo de Barquisimeto con la misión de preservar y difundir la memoria histórica y cultural de la ciudad.
