The courage of penguins
They are waiting for some sign from the sky. Standing on the ice of the dark ocean, the penguins are dressed in their only suit. Tomorrow, possibly, there will be nowhere to stand. The almost disappeared moon no more can illuminate and the distant stars hide the constellations that lost their names.
Everything is peaceful while the alien ships observe the last of your species. The night is frozen. The courage of the penguins is the example of those who know how to resist the inclemency of the weather.
White, black, gray and blue. Where did the colors of the rainbow go in the South Pole? The penguin family is still there as a troop faithful to their ancestors. They too have an open and broken heart.
The day is also dark when the dolphins arrive with their joyful dance over the cold ocean. Now they are two species breathing in one corner of planet earth. Pure hearts can be recognized in subsistence. They are safe.
But what will become of the humans? Will they be saved? The future is unpredictable.
Other colors, another climate, and other human beings are needed. The rainbow, the warmth and hope will return. Fossils will be found as they are in the present to study the barbarism of the past. A shameful past of human beings who destroyed everything in their environment to erect buildings and nuclear plants. What folly! They destroyed the vegetation and the fertile land. But there is still oxygen that maintains life on this small planet.
The aliens are still watching from the galaxy. They too recognize themselves in human beings. Cyclical paradox of the breakdown of the universe.
There are the penguins, looking at the sky with their feet buried in the ice, to remind humans how, why and what the brief existence is for.
