WOX TRAVEL CONTEST | WEEK 7 - My Taormina
Taormina, situated in one of the most picturesque corners of Sicily, gained prominence as a trendy vacation spot after being featured in HBO's series "The White Lotus." The most convenient way to reach Taormina is from Catania, with a distance of approximately 50 kilometers between the two cities.
The journey by bus or car typically takes around one hour. I won't delve into the landmarks; instead, I'll highlight the details in which Italians excel endlessly. Whether it's their food, cars, Nutella, fashion, football, or anything else, they seem to master it all. 💗
Trinacria - this mysterious symbol, featuring the head of the gorgon Medusa, serves as a captivating representation of ancient Greek mythology. Medusa, the enchanting woman who lured men, held the formidable ability to transform her victims into stone with a single glance. This mythical aspect is intricately woven into the narrative of Trinacria, becoming an emblematic symbol for the city. 🥰
In the past, it was a tradition to place the Trinacria behind the doors of homes as a protective emblem. The belief was that the image of Medusa would turn anyone attempting harm to the family within into stone. This symbol not only reflects the magic of Greek mythology but also serves as a protective amulet, conveying a blend of beauty and danger.
Taormina is a small town that you can comfortably explore in two days without rushing. I would say it's a town where art, flowers, and love take the lead, giving Taormina a lot of beauty, elegance, and mystery.
Handcrafted ceramics and the symbol of Sicily, the Trinacria, will literally enchant you, adding to the charm of this place. As I mentioned, every little detail here is carefully crafted, contributing to a delightful atmosphere. 😊
Ceramic heads, scattered ubiquitously throughout, each carrying its own legend, tell a fascinating tale in Sicily. These heads, often seen in dark brown hues, are not mere decorations but bear a symbolic narrative.
One legend weaves around a beautiful maiden with ebony hair and sea-colored eyes. Confined indoors, she found solace in her balcony garden. A Moorish merchant, entranced by her beauty, won her love. Discovering his deceit, grief-stricken, she took his life, turning his head into a pot filled with basil, a symbol of passion and royalty. The envy it stirred led neighbors to replicate dark brown vessels, giving birth to a captivating tale of love, betrayal, and botanical rivalry in Sicily's charming streets.
Taormina is a must-visit town if you have the opportunity. With its stunning views, historical charm, and vibrant atmosphere! ⭐ Enjoy

It is the sort of place that makes you feel inspired just to be alive and breathing when you walk through the gorgeous cobblestone roads - and in my opinion, we all need a little more of that in our lives.
I never knew this! I think I need to get myself one of those, lol!
