WOX TRAVEL CONTEST | WEEK 2 | Exploring with Popeye
Welcome to a place that might not be straight out of a fairy tale, but it's definitely reminiscent of one of the most popular animated cartoons – Popeye the Sailor. Remember that little guy with the pipe, who loves spinach and gains superpowers after munching on those green leaves 🦸🏻♂️
Popeye's village, like you probably heard, is this cool spot with colorful wooden buildings that give off a real retro vibe. It's chilling in the northwest corner of Malta, hanging out in Anchor Bay, surrounded by the beautiful turquoise waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Getting there is a breeze, you can hop on a bus or snag a rental car. Just a heads up, though, the bus schedule might not be your best friend. 😁
The village was created in the late 1979 as a set when Walt Disney and Paramount Pictures decided to film a live-action movie about Popeye, with the lead role played not by just anyone, but by Robin Williams! 🤩
The movie shoot went on for about 7 months, and, well, the critics weren't throwing confetti for it. But one thing no one can deny is that Popeye's village stuck around, making its mark as one of the must-visit spots in Malta.
It's pretty neat to witness the original set, and I want to highlight that they've thrown in quite a few additional items and collages. This adds an extra punch to the atmosphere, bringing in even stronger vibes of Popeye, Olive, and the other characters. 😊
Besides being super colorful and sweet with those curved roof shapes, there's a bunch of fun stuff for kids. For the little ones, they organize shows, and if I'm not mistaken, they happen every hour.
Even if you're not a Popeye fan, the vibe is crafted so well that you just effortlessly soak it in. The fact that you can wander into every little house, stumbling upon different decors recreating scenes from the movie, is absolutely worth your time. It's like stepping into a whole world of movie magic!
There's so much emotion, it's vibrant, and everyone has really put in the effort to make everything top-notch. People are kind, and, not to forget, it's not every day you get to see set designs from a specific movie. It's a unique experience that's hard to come by! 🎞️
Afterthought: I'll also remind you of the breathtaking views of the sea. 😄 Enjoy

I stumbled upon your blog through o1eh's Blogosphere magazine. I didn't know that there was actually a place named after the legendary cartoon Popeye the Sailor Man. Oh man, didn't I love those!
I can literally imagine the vibe, through your pictures. The sets are so cute. I'm sure it's like you have described in your blog. Thank you so much for bringing back so many memories.

Wow, Popeye's village looks absolutely charming! The vibrant colors and whimsical architecture make it seem like stepping into a cartoon world. The fact that it's an actual movie set adds a layer of fascination, especially for fans of Popeye or those interested in film history.
It must be incredible to explore those little houses and stumble upon scenes recreated from the movie. And the addition of shows for kids sounds like a great way to bring the whole experience to life! Such an interesting post, thank you for participating. :)
