Getting Started with Chess: Pieces, Strategies, and The Queen’s Gambit
If you want to learn chess, now is a good time and chess is fun and helps you think better and it’s about strategy and each piece has its own job here is a simple list of the pieces
1. Pawns: They are small pieces and they move one space forward or two spaces first time and they can take pieces diagonally and they look weak but can be strong too
2. Rooks: Rooks move in straight lines and they can go left, right, up, or down and they are good to control big parts of the board
3. Knights: Knights move in an “L” shape and this is tricky for other players to guess and they can jump over other pieces — that is cool
4. Bishops: Bishops move diagonally and they stay on light or dark squares and you need one of each to cover more spaces
5. Queens: The queen is the strongest piece and she can move any way — left, right, up, down, or diagonal and you need to use her smart
6. Kings: The king is very important and you must protect your king and try to trap the other player’s king and the game ends when one king is in “checkmate”
Now let’s talk about a famous opening called Queen’s Gambit and it’s when White gives a pawn to control the middle of the board and this makes the game exciting
Also, there is a popular show on Netflix called The Queen’s Gambit and it is about a girl named Beth Harmon who is very good at chess and she gets better in a man’s world and the show is fun to watch if you are a beginner in chess and like drama
