Commenting on the painting by @crafter (#club100)

Hi friends!

Regardless of the style that we want to paint a still life, we need to achieve a composition in line with what we observe in reality, even more so if we want our work of art to be realistic.
In the case of this watercolour by @crafter, I see the forgetfulness of some basic rules of drawing in perspective, such as not having a horizon. As a consequence of this, each of the elements that make up the scene is not related to the others.
In simple words, you must always take into account the perspective in the scene of your still life to obtain a consistent work and even if the horizon does not appear represented in the work, it must be considered.

The elements that make up a scene must have a hierarchy, some must be more important than others. This can be achieved with adequate use of perspective and with the superimposition of some on top of others to indicate their position and importance in the composition.

As you see, in the picture you have taken of your models, all of them are in accordance with a horizon line.
The horizon line indicates the position of the observer with respect to our model, that is, from where we are observing, from above or from below? Or are we at the same height as our models?

In your painting, no one of the elements has the same horizon to place the vanishing lines.

Besides, is the line that separates the colours light blue and brown an edge of a board or a horizon?
In the case of being the edge of a table, it is necessary to represent a horizon in the background in some way.
In the case of being the horizon, this must be behind the elements of the scene.

This is an aspect that we must take into account when representing elements in a still life.
Later there are other things that are also important, such as shadows and atmospheric perspective, but the first step is drawing.

If you want to learn perspective, I suggest you read some of these lessons:
