After all the stormy weather, grey skies and rain which we had last week, waking up to the sunshine and a clear blue sky this morning was a breath of fresh air - very, very fresh in fact, lol, but hey... at least the sun is out for a change! I love the Wintery days, but after seven plus consecutive days... it does get a little bit much and also I start missing my garden which I have not really been able to get out into much - other than to quickly go feed the birds in-between the rain.

The Western Cape was hit with another mammoth storm last week, which as always, left a lot of destruction along the way. Peoples houses and properties destroyed, flooding - it was crazy, and I don't know if it is just me, but it definitely seems to becoming more of a frequent thing - and more aggressive too!

Below is a video giving you some idea of the level of storm which hit last week. The last time we had a storm like this, it was definitely more severe on our side of the mountain (overberg) and less so in Cape Town itself, but this time, I think it was the other way around.

As always there are a lot of people left with disaster situations on their hands and it is normally the poorer areas and the informal settlements which get hit the hardest. My dad was also unfortunately affected this time around as the wind, which I think someone said they measured at 102 kilometres per hour in our little village... destroyed his entire perimeter fence/wall.

Thankfully he has insurance, so they will be coming to do an assessment for repairs this week. I have to say that (touch wood)... as old as our house is, so far it has stood up against all the storms pretty well. The ones we have been here for any way... and the only damage we incurred this time around was a few broken bushes - which is curious really, because our house literally FACES the mountain which brings the bad weather our way, so we can always see it approaching, and it generally looks like a scene out of some kind of thriller movie or something haha!

Needless to say, it was pretty much a week spent mostly indoors. I cooked, baked, drew etc. etc. We watched the game on Saturday, Herbie got a new basket, which as you can see - he approves of.

But yes, the cabin fever was getting a bit crazy by Sunday, so it was wonderful to wake up this morning and see a clear blue sky, very little wind and best of all... the SUN!!! So, I was out early to feed the breakfast club!

It looks like we have some semi decent weather until about Wednesday and then we are back to rain, rain, rain! So I will make the most of it all while it lasts! Hope you all have a brilliant start to the week!!

Well, one thing I can tell you is that the Cape lived up to its name, "Kaap van storms."

I once was in Langebaan when a terrible Suidooster was blowing. I saw men jumping into the ocean to try and rescue their boats, while the women were terrified, not knowing what was going to happen to their husbands. In the end, it had to be done as fishing is their bread and butter, and without a boat, there won't be any food on the table.

I often find it difficult to comprehend that on one side of South Africa, it is wet and cold, and on the other side, it is sunny and hot.
Yesterday, it was 29 degrees here.

Oh yes indeed!!!!! I swear, our weather is worse than a premenstrual woman sometimes, lol!!! :D 250 moods in one day sometimes too!

Oh man, that is so awful!!! I cannot even begin to imagine how I would react in a situation like that. :( It really is so sad to see how badly so many are affected by these storms. In fact, I am pretty sure that some have likely only just finished "recovering" from the last one... and then BOOM.

Yip... we certainly do have a curious country lol. It is like that even in closer proximity... like one side of the mountain and the other lol.
