Flood Disaster in Lubuk Pusaka

Lubuk Pusaka, is a remote village located at the foot of a Kapai mountain, North Aceh. This village is located in the Arakundo-Aceh watershed. The village is directly adjacent to the district of East Aceh, the Arakundo river separates the two districts. Even so, across the Lubuk Pusaka there are other small villages included in the Pante Bidari sub-district of East Aceh, while Lubuk Pusaka is in the Langkahan-North Aceh sub-district.

Both of these districts have natural resources for agricultural commodities which are very prosperous for the local community, in addition to oil palm, areca nut and cocoa, lime is one of the agricultural commodities that strongly supports the local community's economy. Even the sub-district of Langkahan is known as a producer of Lime in Aceh province. From these two sub-districts [Pante Bidari-Langkahan] lime is supplied to all markets in Aceh, even if abundant harvests are not infrequently the region of lime is also sent to various other provinces on the island of Sumatra and even to the island of Java.

The territorial location in the Arakundo watershed makes these two districts fertile and prosperous and have sufficient water resources. Lubuk pusaka has become one of the villages that has become a center for the circulation of the local community's economy. This is where agricultural products from all villages are located. It is a transit area for every citizen commodity that will be sold to urban areas.

The happines life of the people there must be destroyed instantly, flash floods destroyed the banks of Lubuk Pusaka, the only bridge connecting the two regencies located in the Lubuk Pusaka to be washed away by flash floods. The economy of the community began to recede, since flash floods occurred.

There are no more bridges connecting the two regions, it is caused by flash floods that come suddenly in the Arakundo riverbank. Massive illegal logging occurs in Aceh province. although the Government has imposed all regulations, it did not produce maximum results, there is a large bussinesmen that finances logging in Aceh. The adverse effects were felt by local people, and it became a very valuable lesson.
