RE: photography - "portrait of a statue" - and pics from icelandic fishing village, siglufjordur.

@ eythor-photo Great set of images! I enjoy getting lost in your world.

"i took so many photos that day of that statue. i was studying how the light was being captured on the camera"

  • Never stop studying light, that is the essence of photography. That is what the photographer does, capture light reflecting off a surface. I laugh because I just finished a presentation on "light direction" for the club. It is a concept that is best revisited with every subject you photograph.

The cameras on phones are now better than some of the first DLSR cameras. The camera phone is ideal for learning composition.

The upshot of the sculpture is awesome. It is unique and the way the arm on the right creates a framed triangle of space is brilliant. That triangle is key in many classical paintings. The post brings texture and depth to the sculpture.

I am going to focus on the last photo because you stated that the boat was the main subject. However, my eye kept going to the van and the cirque behind the van. I used to snowboard and that bowl looks amazing, and the way the sun is hitting the land shows the depth and pitch beautifully. Try playing with the crop on that image.

I look forward to more! - Shannon
