Man from Nha Trang, Vietnam. For Portrait Contest by @axeman
I was on my way from Ho Chi Minh City to Bangkok during a year-long trip to Southeast Asia in 2018. The first stop on the route was Nha Trang City, Vietnam where I wanted to visit Po Nagar, an ancient Hindu temple of the Cham people.
By coincidence, a colourful celebration was being held that day there. I found a procession heading up the stairs to the temple on the hill's top.
There was a crowd of simple Chams, perhaps villagers, sitting on the floor in front of Po Nagar. On the rugs beside them, there were offerings: boiled chicken and fruits, eggs, rice, alcohol, cigarettes.
Few foreigners with contented faces were strolling between people in traditional clothes.
Then, I saw this person in a white shirt and a headscarf who was leaning on a wooden staff like a wizard. I realised I couldn't leave the event without his portrait and asked him to pose.
He probably was glad that his efforts to look well were appreciated by a foreign traveller. We both were happy thanks to this little communication.
