Steemit Engagement Challenge WOX Community S6W2: Architectural Photography - Travel ArchitecturesteemCreated with Sketch.

in WORLD OF XPILAR2 years ago (edited)

Although my main photographic style could be explained as fashion/art portraiture, I'm still into both landscape and cityscape photography. Especially while traveling abroad
And this new contest is a nice opportunity to look through my archives and retouched something still laying there under few centimeters of dust...

To make things more interesting, decided to present 4 completely different types of architectural photography

TO CONQUIRE THE SKIES

The first and might be one of most common types - using wide angle lens. In modern cities with a lot of tall buildings that becomes a must in order to be able all those skyscrapers into the limited sensor frame.
And definitely most bright example - magic Burj Khalifa (Dubai, UAE). Tallest building on Earth (so far) and you have to really move further away to frame it even having wide angle lens. And still try to make foreground somehow more interesting. In this particular case illuminated fountains worked pretty well.
Definitely the perspective of the image is deformed a lot, but it even works better giving a lot of dynamics to that 'space ship"

FLAMING VENICE

This image still haven't gathered even a millimeter of dust, since brought from the latest trip to Venice, Italy. The less obvious example of architectural photography done using very long tele-photo lens. Main issue is normally such lenses are very big and heavy. But lately few nice and light examples appeared on the marked *by Tamron and Sigma), with a very wide zoom range and very lightweight and small size. Well, they are darker, but much better than "nothing". The variety of shots which you are able to do with 18-400mm range is just amazing

And this one is done on a very long end, compressing a perspective a lot, which makes such photos to look pretty outstanding. And this is the only way you can make the disc of the setting sun so big and stunningly looking just behind the church's tower

ABSTRACTS OF MILAN

Next type of architectural photography must be more rare, but most fun really - shooting abstracts. A lot of modern cities with all those steel and glass all around bring endless possibilities. And you can achive nice result using really different zoom range. All depends...

Here is shot of the corner of such a modern building in Milan, Italy. Still long tele-photo lens, but not on a longest end, but right in the middle. While 200mm still being considered as "long"

FLYING OVER ARGEGNO

And the last, relatively newest type of shots - aerial or drone photography. With drone prices becoming pretty attractive and possibilities rising with every next model - this is must to have in a journey. Well, still depends on local legislation, which might be a real obstacle.

Here is early morning view over Como lake in Italy. Small and colorful Argegno town on the mountain side. Perfect memories about almost the week spent there...

The way you captured Burj Khalifa is a mastery.
It is so hard to get this tall building, and still have a nice photo (artistically), but you did it.

Need to return there.. one day :)

@axeman-appics, Friend I congratulate you your photography are spectacular I loved, you put a heart to take them.

Hi @axeman-appics!

From an artistic aspect, I find your photos very interesting and captivating, although that slight inclination to the right of the Burj Khalifa bothers me a bit.
I loved the second photo, a beautiful lighting effect but it doesn't look like an architectural photo to me.
The third image, "Abstract of Milan" (which I think are two different photos) I find interesting as concept art but tells me nothing in terms of architecture. Without explanation, it could be a photo of something else. In my opinion, the image must "speak" for itself and this image does not speak to me about architecture.
Last image,... no words. Did you read the bases of the challenge?
