Hello , Witnesses are the people who are running the nodes for our blockchain that helps the blockchain to live and keeps it healthy. if there are so many witnesses i.e so many people running the node the chain becomes more and more secure.
Also there are many tools and frontends alternative created by our witnesses as well that we use in daily life.

Witnesses play an important role for the proper functioning of the Steemit platform. They are creators of nodes, as well as excellent applications that allow us to generate key activities.
I hope you can get good knowledge about them, the current ones are good friends, starting with @steem.history who has delegated a good amount of SP to the community.
I would like to say that witnesses are like the heart of this platform and without them it won't be possible for it to live.
I support @justyy he is a nice person teaches to little kids and that is really a thing i like about him.
Many witness have created some useful tools for the platform .
Also they are there to mine new blocks in the blockchain with different transactions.
