Dear Steemians ! Visit Sri Pada , Sri Lanka
Today I’m going to tell you about the world famous Adam’s peak. It’s a steep and conical shaped beautiful mountain which is located in central highland of island of Sri Lanka. Adam’s peak is not just a physically imposing peak. It’s a significant pilgrimage for Buddhists and Christians in Sri Lanka. There are many ancient stories attached with this mountain which make people believe the Adam’s peak has a significant relationship with their religion.
This amazing mountain has many names. Those names were given to that mountain as a result of the different religious and different cultural attachment of this mountain. Sinhalese people, the true owners of this land have a great history attached with this mountain. They call it “Sri Padha”, which means the “sacred foot”. The lord Buddha visited this place according to the history of Sri Lankan, due to that reason Buddhist people in Sri Lanka consider it as a sacred place. And this mountain also called Samanathakuta, Samanelakhanda , Svargarohanam, 'Shiva Padam , Pico de Adam, Malayagiri and Mount Rohana.
The environment you will pass on the way to the mountain is very rich with bio-diversity. And it's a highly protected area. The small water streams and green surrounding and mist brings a wonderful feeling.
Seetha Gangula , which means the cold stream is a popular water stream which you will find on the way to Adam’s Peak. The water is really cold and it’s very difficult to bath from it. But devotees bath from it before the climb as a customary.
A person need to climb around 5500 stairs to reach the top of the mountain. It will take 3-5 hours to climb the mountain which will vary on you fitness level and amount of crowds in paths. It’s better to avoid peak times as this place is busy with religious pilgrims.
Adam’s peak or Sri Padha is a conical shaped peak which has an altitude of 2243 meters to the sea level. It’s the 4th highest mountain in Sri Lanka. This mountain is very significant to the island as it watershed for four main rivers in sri lanka, Mahaveli , Kelani , Kalu and Walawe rivers
This is a photography of the top of the peak taken by me. It's a very significant place for all the local people in sri lanka , no matter what religion they belongs to. It will be a very crowded place in season. But it's safe to climb with the crowd than climbing in off season.
Hope you guys enjoyed my article.
Thank you all.
