In un futuro potrebbero essere le strade stesse a stoccare e fornire energia, grazie a un'innovativa invenzione realizzata presso il Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) di Boston.
Un team di ricerca ha infatti sviluppato un materiale innovativo composto da cemento, acqua e carbon black capace di funzionare come un supercondensatore, un cemento che fa da batteria.
Un supercondensatore è un dispositivo di accumulo capace di rilasciare l'energia in modo molto più rapido rispetto a una batteria tradizionale.
Il cemento elettrificato potrebbe essere utilizzato per pavimentare le strade del futuro e impiegata anche nella realizzazione di edifici residenziali e industriali.
Secondo i calcoli dei ricercatori, un blocco di cemento e carbon black di 45 metri cubi riesce a stoccare abbastanza energia da alimentare una casa media negli Stati Uniti per un'intera giornata.
Questa innovazione potrebbe spingere l'industria edilizia verso una direzione più sostenibile e resiliente dal punto di vista energetica, aprendo la strada a un futuro in cui le nostre infrastrutture immagazzineranno e utilizzeranno la stessa energia in modo intelligente..
