Dear friends,
after a short break for the Christmas holidays, here we are together again to talk about what happened during the fourteenth day of the most difficult championship in the world, which is starting to issue increasingly important verdicts. The panettone eaten during the past Christmas was undoubtedly rather sweet for the two Milanese teams who, both victorious, embarked on a sort of small escape at the top of the standings.
Milan also overcomes the Lazio obstacle, with another goal scored in recovery time by Theo Hernandez: despite a balanced game, enriched by a couple of rather dubious penalties (one on each side), the Rossoneri managed again once to beat his opponent of the day thanks to the minutes of play allowed beyond the ninetieth, a sign of an undoubtedly tenacious and vigorous team character, but also of a wheel that has so far always turned from the right direction.
If it is true, as I believe, that lucky and unlucky episodes usually tend to balance out over the course of a championship, for Pioli's team the second part of the tournament could become more difficult than the first, because, in the fourteen games played, in five of them Milan have recovered points in the last ten minutes, and in three even going beyond the ninetieth.
If something sensational does not happen on the January transfer market, I nevertheless continue to consider AC Milan a cut below the city rivals Inter, who has in the meantime reached their seventh consecutive victory. Unlike what happens to the "cousins", however, the victories of Antonio Conte's team did not come after frantic comebacks but seem to derive from an evident superiority on the pitch.
The squad available to the former Chelsea and Juventus coach, after the continuous summer whims, appears to date by far the best, qualitatively and numerically speaking, of the whole Serie A, and the absence of European matches launch even more Inter in the role of absolute favourite to win the Scudetto.
Behind the two teams of the city of Milan, spaced only one point between them, a small chasm has already been created, and to reach third place, now occupied again by Roma, it is necessary to go down six lengths; the Giallorossi, victorious over Cagliari albeit with some effort too much, are followed at a distance of one point by Sassuolo, who returned to victory after a short period of fogging, and two by Napoli, whose disappointing home draw reached in extremis in the match against Torino once again brought to light all the limits of Gattuso's team.
However, to come out with broken bones from the fourteenth day was Juventus, which in addition to having collected the humiliating defeat (0-3) at home inflicted by the almost derelict Fiorentina, was also subtracted, a few hours from the start of the game the three points awarded by the sports judge for the non-presentation of Napoli, in the direct match of the third day, as well as a potential starting player, Rabiot, due to the disqualification round resumed after the decision to replay the match.
What seems certain is that for the bianconeri there is no good air: the third degree of the judgment of the Juve-Napoli case unexpectedly gave reason to the Neapolitans, despite the protocols signed by the clubs and the two previous sentences, which had sanctioned the wrong behaviour of the Campania team (considered suspect of bad faith), while on the field, the direction of the referee La Penna appeared on more than one occasion completely biased in favour of Fiorentina, benefited from the (correct) expulsion of Cuadrado, but pardoned in a couple of occasions for obvious penalties and for Borja Valero's failure to send off in the second half.
Pirlo's team, as I have been repeating from the beginning, is not up to today, to compete with Inter over the distance of an entire championship, although it may have on its side the greatest growth margin of all the teams in the A league; realistically speaking, Juventus must set itself the goal of qualifying for the Champions League for the following year, focusing on hitting what is the real goal indicated by the management from the beginning: to create the foundations, starting from a young group, to a new winning cycle.
All three of the last in the rankings move in the rear, even if the victories of Genoa and Crotone, respectively against Spezia and Parma, leave Torino FC alone at the bottom of the ranking, reached, as mentioned a few lines higher, by Napoli in the last moments of their match. The Granata coach, Marco Giampaolo, remains in command of the team, despite one of the worst starts in the history of the second team in Turin, above all due to the huge costs that a change of coach would entail for President Cairo's team.
When the championship resumes, Milan will visit Benevento, coached by the excellent former player and coach of the Rossoneri, Filippo Inzaghi; pay attention to Super Pippo's desire for revenge, who after having burned himself a bit on the bench of his former team, had to start over from the lower leagues, rebuilding an excellent career. His Benevento plays a pleasant football and can put even the most famous teams in difficulty and the away match in Campania could prove more insidious than expected for the leaders.
Inter are expected from the home match with Crotone, which appears rather obvious in the prediction, as well as those of Juventus and Rome, who should not struggle too much to beat Udinese and Sampdoria respectively, while the one that awaits Sassuolo is complicated, on a field that is never as simple as that of Atalanta, between two teams that make a good game their strong point.

dopo una breve pausa per le festività natalizie, eccoci di nuovo insieme per parlare di quanto accaduto nel corso della quattordicesima giornata del campionato più difficile del mondo, che sta cominciando ad emettere verdetti via via sempre più importanti. Il panettone mangiato durante il Natale appena trascorso è risultato senza dubbio piuttosto dolce per le due squadre milanesi che, entrambe vittoriose, hanno intrapreso una sorta di piccola fuga in testa alla classifica.
Il Milan supera anche lo scoglio della Lazio, con un'altra rete in pieno tempo di recupero di Theo Hernandez: nonostante una partita equilibrata, arricchita da un paio di calci di rigore (uno per parte) piuttosto dubbi, i rossoneri sono riusciti ancora una volta ad avere la meglio del proprio avversario di giornata grazie ai minuti di gioco concessi oltre il novantesimo, segno di un carattere di squadra indubbiamente tenace e gagliardo, ma anche di una ruota che ha fin qui girato sempre dal verso giusto.
Se è vero, come credo, che nell'arco di un campionato episodi fortunati e sfortunati, a favore e contro, tendano di solito ad equilibrarsi, per la squadra di Pioli la seconda parte del torneo potrebbe diventare più impegnativa della prima, alla luce del fatto che, nelle quattordici partite disputate, in ben cinque di esse il Milan ha recuperato punti negli ultimi dieci minuti, ed in tre andando addirittura oltre il novantesimo.
Se non accadrà qualcosa di clamoroso sul mercato di gennaio, continuo tuttavia a considerare il Milan una spanna sotto i rivali cittadini dell'Inter, giunti nel frattempo alla settima vittoria di fila. A differenza di quanto accade ai "cugini" però, le vittorie della squadra di Antonio Conte non sono arrivate dopo affannose rimonte, ma sembrano figlie di una superiorità evidente sul campo. La rosa messa a disposizione dell'ex allenatore di Chelsea e Juventus, dopo i continui capricci estivi, appare ad oggi di gran lunga la migliore, qualitativamente e numericamente parlando, di tutta la Serie A, e l'assenza di impegni europei lanciano ancora di più l'Inter nel ruolo di assoluta favorita per la conquista dello scudetto.
Dietro le due squadre di Milano, distanziate di un solo punto tra di loro, si è già creata una piccola voragine, e per giungere al terzo posto, occupato ora nuovamente dalla Roma, bisogna scendere di sei lunghezze; i giallorossi, vittoriosi sul Cagliari seppur con qualche affanno di troppo, sono seguiti a distanza di un punto dal Sassuolo, ritornato alla vittoria dopo un breve periodo di appannamento, e di due dal Napoli, il cui deludente pareggio casalingo raggiunto in extremis nella gara con il Torino ha evidenziato ancora una volta tutti i limiti della squadra di Gattuso.
Ad uscire però con le ossa rotte dalla quattordicesima giornata è stata la Juventus, che oltre ad aver incassato la pesante sconfitta (0-3) casalinga inferta dalla quasi derelitta Fiorentina, si è vista sottrarre a poche ore dall'inizio della partita anche i tre punti assegnati dal giudice sportivo per la mancata presentazione del Napoli, nello scontro diretto della terza giornata, oltre ad un potenziale titolare, Rabiot, a causa del turno di squalifica riesumato dopo la decisione di rigiocare la partita.
Quel che appare certo è che per i bianconeri non tira una buona aria: il terzo grado di giudizio del caso Juve-Napoli ha inaspettatamente restituito la ragione ai partenopei, nonostante i protocolli siglati dalle società e le due sentenze precedenti, che avevano sottolineato il comportamento errato dei campani (considerato sospetto di mala fede), mentre sul campo, la direzione dell'arbitro La Penna è apparsa in più di un'occasione del tutto sbilanciata a favore della Fiorentina, beneficiata dalla (corretta) espulsione di Cuadrado, ma graziata in un paio di occasioni per falli evidenti da calcio di rigore e per la mancata espulsione di Borja Valero nel secondo tempo.
La squadra di Pirlo, come vado ripetendo dall'inizio, non è all'altezza, ad oggi, di competere con l'Inter sulla distanza di un intero campionato, sebbene possa avere dalla sua parte il maggior margine di crescita di tutte le squadre della Serie A; realisticamente parlando, la Juventus deve porsi l'obiettivo di una qualificazione in Champions League per l'anno successivo, concentrandosi nel centrare quello che è il vero obiettivo indicato della dirigenza fin dall'inizio: creare le basi, partendo da un gruppo givane, per un nuovo ciclo vincente.
In coda muovono la classifica tutte e tre le ultime della graduatoria, anche se le vittorie di Genoa e Crotone, rispettivamente contro Spezia e Parma, lasciano da solo in fondo alla classifica il Torino, raggiunto, come detto poche righe più in alto, dal Napoli negli ultimi istanti della gara. L'allenatore granata Marco Giampaolo resta al comando della squadra, nonostante una delle peggiori partenze della storia della seconda squadra di Torino, anche e soprattutto a causa degli ingenti costi che un cambio di allenatore comporterebbe per la squadra del Presidente Cairo.
Alla ripresa del campionato, il Milan farà visita al Benevento, allenato dall'ottimo ex giocatore ed allenatore dei rossoneri, Filippo Inzaghi; attenzione alla voglia di rivalsa di Super Pippo, che dopo essersi un po' bruciato sulla panchina della sua ex squadra, ha dovuto ricominciare dalle serie inferiori, ricostruendosi un'ottima carriera.Il suo Benevento gioca un calcio piacevole e in grado di mettere in difficolta anche squadre più blasonate e la trasferta campana potrebbe rivelarsi più insidiosa del previsto per la capolista.
L'Inter è attesa dall'impegno casalingo con il Crotone, che appare piuttosto scontato nel pronostico, così come quelli di Juventus e Roma, che non dovrebbero faticare troppo ad aver ragione rispettivamente di Udinese e Sampdoria, mentre trasferta complicata è quella che attende il Sassuolo, su un campo mai semplice come quello dell'Atalanta, in una sfida tra due squadre che fanno del bel gioco il loro credo.
