I saw a couple of guys in Bangkok in the river collecting the coins from the krathong last year. It was dark at night but I could still see that the river wasn't clean. So sad, but I guess it's an opportunity for them to make some money. Maybe those who put the coins there are doing a good deed to help others.
Sky lanterns are another thing that I really despise. It's pretty for about five minutes when you launch it and watch it flow away, but the damages can be very devastating 😢

Hey hey @livinguktaiwan! For sure... I have divided feelings about the festival, cause yes, you cannot deny that it's beautiful and give you a lot of joy, but the damages to environment are huge! i view it as long-distance littering. If someone were to drive a truck somewhere and dump 10,000 lanterns on the ground people would definitely have a problem with that... sorry but that is basically what is happening because those things eventually have to come down!
totally agree with you. And you have no idea where the lantern lands, it could potentially set fire to something or get caught on power cables
