Memoria olfativa: Pescadores artesanales en la Península Paraguaná / Olfactory memory: artisanal fishermen in the Paraguaná peninsula

La memoria visual probablemente sea la que más privilegiamos a la hora de recordar algo, y de alguna forma es la que recibe más estímulos de todos nuestros sentidos cada día, sin embargo, siempre digo que para mí, la memoria olfativa es la más precisa de todas las formas de recordar.

Visual memory is probably the most privileged when it comes to remembering something, and somehow it receives the most stimuli from all our senses every day, however, I always say that for me, olfactory memory is the most accurate of all the ways to remember.

Cuando recuerdo el olor de algún lugar inmediatamente empiezan a llegar a mi mente cualquier cantidad de imágenes y recuerdos que evocan de forma muy cercana las experiencias vividas.

When I remember the smell of some place, any number of images and memories immediately come to mind that very closely evoke the lived experiences.

Aunque no es posible “capturar” un olor de forma natural para traerlo al presente como hacemos al mirar una foto, estoy seguro que todos memorizamos olores, que al ser accionados por algún estímulo, de alguna forma nos trasladan a ese lugar especial.

Although it is not possible to "capture" an odor naturally to bring it to the present as we do when looking at a photo, I am sure that we all memorize odors, that when activated by some stimulus, somehow move us to that special place.

A veces recordamos un olor de la infancia, la casa de nuestros abuelos, una comida en especial, o algún lugar donde solíamos vacacionar.

Sometimes we remember a smell from childhood, our grandparents' house, a special meal, or somewhere where we used to vacation.

En mi caso, quizás de forma inconsciente van quedando grabados esos olores de algunos parajes recorridos, y me es posible asegurar que muchas fotografías de esos viajes también pueden ser olidas.

In my case, perhaps unconsciously, those smells of some places visited are recorded, and I can assure you that many photographs of those trips can also be smelled.

En un viaje de trabajo por la Península de Paraguaná, salí a dar un paseo para alejarme un poco de la multitud y el ambiente fiestero del que estaba rodeado en ese momento, caminé unos 20 minutos buscando el encuentro del atardecer hasta llegar a una solitaria playa de pescadores que llaman La Punta.

On a work trip through the Paraguaná Peninsula, I went for a walk to get away from the crowd and the party atmosphere I was surrounded at that time, I walked about 20 minutes looking for the meeting of the sunset until I reached a lonely beach fishermen called La Punta.

Tuve la fortuna de conocer y retratar a una familia de amables pescadores artesanales, quienes se encontraban en plena faena, y no por eso dejaron de brindarme su hospitalidad y recomendarme algunos sitios de interés para visitar.

I was fortunate to meet and portray a family of friendly artisanal fishermen, who were in the middle of their work, and for that reason they did not stop offering me their hospitality and recommending some interesting places to visit.

Quise compartir con ustedes este grato y olfativo recuerdo en estos días de confinamiento y de tanto extrañar y extrañar el mar Caribe.

I wanted to share with you this pleasant and olfactory memory in these days of confinement and of so much missing and missing the Caribbean Sea.
