Italian company Energy Dome is constructing a "CO2 battery" in Sardinia to address the challenge of managing excess power generated from renewable sources. This innovative solution will involve a large dome filled with 1000 tonnes of carbon dioxide, which will store surplus energy from wind and solar sources and release it back to the grid when needed. With the increasing availability of green energy, particularly during sunny and windy days across Europe, there is often more electricity than the grid requires. This has prompted grid operators and renewable plant owners to seek cost-effective methods for storing this excess power for use when energy demand is high.
