My life without internet connection.

There are times, I have ask myself, what if I misplaced my phone especially this period that things are so expensive, how am I going to cope because my phone is one of my major source of entertainment, so I try to make sure there is always internet connection on my phone.

When I was thinking, I couldn’t do without my phone, then we had an internet challenge that affected the whole country, that was when I knew that my phone is just as good as a landline without an internet connection facilitating it. Internet is now an integral part of our life that connects the entire world together.

There was a time when we heard that the underwater fiber optic cables have experience issues and affected internet connectivity in some parts of Africa. Nigeria, was not an exception. We had to wait for them to fix whatever the issue was. Those past few days was really frustrating. Internet is now so part of us that we will rather starve, than to go without data to connect to the internet for a day.

To make matter worse, I had a contest on Steemit I’d written down already. I had to forfeit it because of the internet challenge. I tried buying data to send to my kid sister’s other line so that I could connect through Wi-Fi, because I thought it was specific to only my network but it turned out it was a general issue.

Another way it affected me was in the case of my salary. I already had some credit I was owing a friend that I had promised to pay once I get my salary but because of the internet challenge, the banks couldn’t operate. The guy I was owing was aware of the internet challenge but because he saw some cash with me, he wanted me to pay him, then keeping me stranded.

It led to a heated argument but I was insisting he has to wait a bit, when bank transfers are working, I’ll settle him. People had to intervene because it was looking as if, we might end up fighting. I’d to give him some money because from what he explained, he didn’t have any money with him and bank are not paying as well. It really affected my feeding that period.

I was forced to go out and see some of my friends. In fact, I wasn’t the only one forced to come outside and relax with other people. Some friends of mine that I’ve not seen in a long time, who had thought, I’ve moved out from the area were really on my case that day because they were teasing me for coming out because of lack of internet.

Movies was another thing that kept me occupied throughout my stay without internet. Thanks to God, I already had some movies I’d downloaded before the whole saga, that I was yet to watch. They kept me occupied as well.

Video games was my best companion especially adventure games. I had to get another collection of Grand Theft Auto (GTA) game, that I’ve never played before to keep me occupied. It was really interesting because that was my best distraction even when the internet finally came back.

Internet is life because it connects not only to people, but also to resources and services. During that period a lot of businesses was on a shut down and it affected their means of livelihood.

For many churches, who have branches outside the country, internet has been one of the major thing that has kept them unified through different checks and balances that has been put in place to make reports to their headquarters.
