Killing The Dragon Of A Single Story
Noted author Chimamanda Adichie
Noted author Chimamanda Adichie warns her audience about the danger of a single story, saying, it gives default assumptions, conclusions, and decisions that are incomplete.
The author grew up on the British and American children's books, and before long, she discerned that these foreign books have the same stereotypes about Africa and Africans and that the African children internalized the foreign stereotypes about themselves. So she set out on a mission to give the world a timely wake-up call on the danger of a single, stereotypical story.
Storytelling is a powerful tool
"Those who tell stories," Plato observes, "rule society".
And "When the storytelling goes bad in society," Aristotle predicts, "the result is decadence”.
“The most powerful person in the world is the story teller," Steve Jobs opined, "The storyteller sets the vision, values and agenda of an entire generation that is to come.”
Abusers, too, tell a story for the abuse: their story entraps the victim.
Rescuers, too, tell a story for the rescue: their story emboldens the victim.
The story we tell ourselves can make or break us: it can embolden us, or it can entrap us.
The Dragon Slayer
Chinamanda Adichie is a dragon slayer who slays the dragon of a single, stereotypical story:

I agree with you on this. For this reason we need to be careful of the stories we tell ourselves.
