Good morning everyone, this time I will share a little knowledge about diesel engines.

Diesel-fueled engines or commonly referred to as diesel engines (or compression-ignition engines) are internal combustion engines using the heat of compression to create ignition and burn the fuel that has been injected into the combustion chamber. This diesel-fueled engine does not use spark plugs like a gasoline engine or gas engine.

Understanding the diesel engine is still a lot of controversy. Some people still believe that the diesel engine is a dirty pollutant engine, it has no power, and if you want to refuel, you have to queue at the back of the truck. Through this article, we try to explain why modern diesel engines are more attractive than gasoline engines.

The development of diesel engine technology, triggered by strict regulations on exhaust emissions of motorized vehicles around the world, has forced car manufacturers to turn their heads to produce clean diesel engines. Moreover, consumers are increasingly demanding cars to have more power, without sacrificing fuel efficiency.

As a result, car manufacturers around the world issued brilliant ideas that make diesel cars a favorite car, and came out with the term clean diesel engine. Even now, the diesel engine is the engine that has the most active and rapid development compared to other engines.

The market has also begun to absorb diesel-engined cars better than before. This has been proven in Europe where diesel cars sell better than gasoline cars. And here we present technology that will make you prefer diesel engines to gasoline engines.

1. Common Rail Direct Injection.

This is one device that makes diesel engines more powerful. Each manufacturer has various additional technologies in this direct injection common rail, but basically this system makes the fuel pressure increase, and the ejection is controlled by the computer.

The main component lies in the high pressure fuel pump that supplies the fuel rail with high pressure, but unlike the usual full injector system, this fuel will be collected first in the fuel rail, before being ordered by the computer/ECU to be ejected through the injectors. The pressure of diesel fuel that is sprayed into the combustion chamber usually reaches 3,000 kpa, but it is controlled by the ECU to suit the needs.

Each injector is placed on the cylinder head, directly above the piston, and with piezoelectric technology, the injector with its very small bore, has the ability to spray fuel at various pressures in succession, and individually. Piezoelectric itself is the electric pressure that will drive the injector needle, the movement is very precise, and that's what makes the fuel spray also precise.

2. DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter)

As the name implies, this device is tasked with filtering diesel particles, or what is also known as soot. If you often see black smoke coming out of the exhaust of old diesel cars, well that's it, the chemical content of which is dangerous is quite high and this is why people often assume that diesel cars are pollutants.

This DPF removes 85 percent or more of this harmful black smoke, and regular maintenance is required to keep the DPF working optimally. Filter materials can vary, depending on the manufacturer. There are several ways to treat it, depending on the manufacturer's recommendations. However, there is also a DPF that can clean itself by driving the car with high engine speed, so if you see a modern diesel car speeding and smoke coming out of its exhaust, it doesn't mean the car is damaged, but it could be that it is cleaning the DPF automatically.

3. Turbo Diesel

Say goodbye to the notion that diesel cars are weak. Technology has been such that diesel-engined cars are able to match and even surpass the performance of petrol-engined cars. Turbodiesel is a way that automotive manufacturers take to improve performance. This induction device will enter more air in order to help the combustion process, while reducing exhaust emissions.

Turbodiesel engine is also what helps sales of 'diesel' cars on the European continent. Sales figures are increasing every year, 50 percent of new cars in Europe are cars with turbodiesel engines. You might say that turbodiesel only helps increase torque at low revs, but don't forget that turbodiesel technology has also evolved, making it more flexible. Turbocharger with variable geometry is one solution, this turbocharger model is able to adjust the amount of pressure based on needs through the movement of the blades in the turbine.
