I'll join the club! I also had German at school, but yah, never continued with it. Today, I wish I did.
A language reaches so much further than just the words. It is the sounds, the culture, and the people behind it that make it so much more interesting.

Indeed, learning languages means for me first and foremost openness to the culture of the other. Language is a means by which you can know how the country or society whose language you are about to acquire lives. I also like the diversification of languages for the love of change.
