Cultivation of Rare and Protected Orchid Species in My Garden
Hello friends of Steemit Garden, how are you all? I hope you are always in good health and blessed.
Thank you to all members and stakeholders in the Steemit Garden community. I'm so glad I'm back to share posts about plants in my garden. In this post I want to share the types of beautiful flowering plants.
In my yard there are orchids growing on the fence. This orchid plant was planted by my mother using a planting medium from coconut husk. This coir has been mixed with bricks, charcoal and organic soil.
This orchid plant is tied to a tree plant that supports the garden fence. After I searched, it turns out that my orchid plant is a type of Larat Orchid. In scientific language, this orchid plant is called Dendrobium Phalaenopsis.
While in English it is called the Cooktown Orchid, which is one of the Orchidaecaea tribes. This orchid that grows in my yard lives on another tree trunk. Orchid plants are included in the type of epiphytic plants, which live by supporting other trees.
However, the orchid plant only lives to support it and make the tree die. Dependence on the life of this orchid plant does not damage the tree trunk it occupies. Orchid plants grow by supporting other trees, because they have long spreading roots.
According to the information I obtained, it turns out that this is one of the rare types of orchids. This orchid is a characteristic orchid from Indonesia which comes from Maluku. This orchid belongs to a rare and protected type of plant.
If we look closely, this orchid has a unique plant posture. The trunks are covered with leaves. Orchid leaves look oval, thick and have flesh.
The leaves of this orchid have colors ranging from light green to dark green with a flash of color in the middle of the leaf. The leaves are arranged attached to the stem, meeting each other from one leaf to another. The stems that appear to be covered in leaves look large and elongated.
Though the original stem looks small and extends upwards. Because it is covered by leaves, the stems of this orchid plant look bigger. The stem grows elongated upwards to the top where the flower grows.
Its roots grow lengthwise and envelop the trunk of the tree in which it sits. However, the roots will not kill other plants. We can treat it by cutting the creeping roots.
Orchid flowers bloom with their petals at the end of the stem. This type of orchid flower is purple and looks bright. Flowers grow in several bunches, where each stem can bloom more than 6 flowers.
If we pay attention, orchids have a center line with a color that is darker than the base color of the flower. Meanwhile, the flower petals appear lanceolate and bloom. In each part of the flower bud there is also a fruit stalk in the shape of an oblong.
This orchid flower looks very this and gives color to my garden. There are 4 pots of orchids planted and supported on trees that line the fence into the yard. Despite the unique shape and way of life, the color and beauty of the flowers look very charming and pleasing to the eye.
Caring for this orchid is not so difficult, usually my mother only does watering in the afternoon. This orchid plant must be planted in a place that is exposed to the sun, so that it can thrive. But orchids also can not survive in the weather that is too hot, you should plant it on a tree that has stems and leaves to protect it from the hot sun.
I invite all of us to conserve this orchid plant to protect its habitat from extinction. In addition, cultivating this type of orchid plant can also have a profitable economic value. The price of one pot of this orchid can range up to hundreds of thousands of rupiah.
Meanwhile, the most important thing is to keep this orchid habitat from becoming extinct. Because this is a typical flower from the Indonesian region. So that it can make it an identity and education in the world of education and science.
Thus my review of the orchid plants in my garden page. Hopefully this post can provide information and education. Thank you to all those who have supported and read my post.

Yes, as you can see in the picture. Orchid plants are grown on coconut coir media and use only a small amount of soil. The rest is bricks and charcoal. Orchids can grow attached to other tree trunks by wrapping their roots.
Very good post thanks
