SLC21-W6 // Flan

I hope you are doing well...

I'm pleased to take part in the sixth lesson of the Steemit Learning challenge Season 21. Today, It's the first time I prepared this sweet dessert on my own. Thanks to our Pastry chef Team for guiding us to make a delightful dessert on this festive season.

I'm familiar with the name "caramel pudding" as we often make it at home. It's a simple dessert that suits any occasion. It is made with ingredients that are always available at home. It can be easily prepared as soon as you get a sweet craving. My mom used to make this dessert for almost every occasion because it's easy to make even on a busy day. Even now, we love to enjoy the caramel pudding she makes. It's really delicious and a perfect dessert to satisfy our sweet tooth.

✓ Make a flan, you can follow the recipe given in the course or if you have any others that you have prepared you can share them, detail utensils, ingredients and step by step.


Today, I will try making the caramel pudding without my mom's help following the recipe and adding ingredients that my mom used. I do not have proper utensils at home, so I will be managing with the utensils I have.

Preparation method step by step:

Making of caramel.

I added sugar to the same pot that I will be preparing the caramel pudding. In very low heat, I melted the sugar and added two teaspoons of hot water. Once the caramel turned into an amber color. I removed it from the heat and left it to cool.

Making of the pudding.

Step 1: I added condensed milk to another bowl

Step 2: Take fresh milk to the same amount of condensed milk and then pour it into the bowl.

Step 3: I added Vanilla and and eggs to the milk mixture.

step 4: Lastly I added a few pods of cardamom and I used the beater to make sure all ingredients were well combined.

Step 5: Then I poured the mixture into the pot which made the caramel. Before pouring the mixture I made sure that the caramel is well made and will not combine with the milk mixture.

Step 6: I placed a cooling rack on the bottom of the pot where I will be steaming the pudding. Next, I covered it with hot water and then placed the pot with pudding. I covered it with a lid and let it steam for about 45 minutes on medium heat.

Step 7: By now my kitchen is filled with the beautiful aroma of the caramel pudding. Using a stick I checked if it was well-cooked.

Step 8: The stick came out clean. I removed it from the heat and let it cool for a while.

Step 9: Before flipping the pudding, I ran the knife on the edge of the pot so that It wouldn't get stuck.

Step 10: I flipped the pudding from the pot to the serving plate.

✓ Did you have any difficulties in making your flan?


It's one of the easiest recipes for any dessert lover to try. There are various recipes for making flan. I think getting the texture right is the difficulty I have had before. The texture can't be too watery or too thick. It should have a creamy texture. And most importantly I was very careful when making the caramel. Because it can burn and taste bitter anytime so I always kept an eye controlling the heat until it turned into amber color.

✓ Do you have any special tips for making flan? Share.


I added a few pods of cardamom, It gives a rich aroma to our caramel pudding and enhances its taste. I learned this trick from my mom. Since we are adding egg it helps to eliminate the eggy smell, making the dessert more appetizing and flavourful.

And I think the control of heat and the cooking time is really important to make your caramel pudding on point.

I am very happy that you chose my name , am glad that you would like to share it with me if so I would definitely enjoy it with you secondly . as you said your mom used to make this dish in every occasion so I can imagine how good her taste would be and am glad today you try it without their help and i know you put so much effort and love in it and when we cook, we mix our love into it and its becomes very tasty.
